This Scary Mommy link seems like an appropriate one to share during our anniversary week.
I am 100% on board with the concept in this post. Marriage cannot be a never ending tally of who’s currently on the “you owe me” list – marriage is a long dance of give and take, helping and receiving and making it work.
But I also recognize the ease of falling into this habit, especially when you are surrounded by high maintenance babies and toddlers whose tantrums have destroyed your will to live. We weren’t a “You owe me” couple, but I believe there may have been a few years in there where we fell into the “whose job is harder” swamp. Different phrase, same concept.
