It’s no secret that I’m dreading the kids’ introduction to social media.
At 9- and 11-years-old they already know friends who are wading deep into the water and while my New Year’s resolution was to judge less (I’m working on it!), I still have a big fat WTH?! for the parents of my daughter’s classmate who let her have a Facebook page.
Let’s put aside the fact that you’re supposed to be 13 to have an account (though this parental “exception” now might make finding that fake ID when she’s in high school a little awkward) – why would she possibly need this kind of social media platform at her age? It puts her online in a forum where the users are all presumably teenagers or older. Would you send your fourth grader to a teen rave?
At any rate, I know these issues are eventually headed our way so when I come across good advice for social media I take note. Thought I’d share this one with you.
My ex wife lets my daughter run wild (she’s 8) on pinterest not real happy about it myself!
