Friday’s talks: real life has texture

Adoptions present a powerful narrative, a very persuasive one that can be hard to dispel.

The general public has an almost two-dimensional perspective on lives that are anything but.  Adoption is often described as a beautiful act of benevolence, a chance for every child to have a loving home, a lifeline thrown to someone in need.

Adoption stories are rarely this simple and they’re never this pretty, all tied up with a satin bow.  Fairy tales are for Disney.  Real life has sharp corners and angles and multiple sides to each story.
