Today’s post brought to you by one morning in the life of Gracie…

(Open big brown eyes to a soft light peeking through the blinds.  Huge stretch, mouth gaping, legs sliding across the bedroom floor. Fluffy belly tickles the wood.)

Gah-rumph.  (Slowly lift head up then flop back down.)

Hmmm, the people are still asleep, maybe they’ll wake up now…okay, now…maybe now

They need help.  (Wander over to bed.  Stand up and drop fat paws down next to mommy.  Nothing.  Bat mommy with paw.)

Wake up!  Wake up!  Wake up!  Wake – oh good, mommy’s up, I’ll race her to the door.

(THUD!  Scitter-scitter-scitter thump thump sliiiidddde….thud.  Come to a stop and lean 65-pound weight against bedroom door that opens inward.)

“Wah wah wah wah wah.  Wah wah wah wah wah.  WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH, GRACIE!”

What, mommy?  Why are you poking me with the door?  (sliiiiddde)  Ohhh, maybe I’ll move.

(Whoosh!  Scritch-scritch-scritch-scritch thump thump thump.  Thunder down the hall, skid around corner, and race Phoebe to the back door.)

Let me out Let me out Let me out Let me out – I’M FREE!  (Bound down stairs, sprint to middle of yard and pee, sprint back to house.)

Let me in Let me in Let me in Let me – What’s that?  “WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF!!!!!” – Let me in Let me in Let me – I’M IN!

Time to eat!!  (Scamper to food dish.)  Where’s my food?  Where’s my food?  There’s no food here.  Where’s my food?!

(Start searching for T-man.)

Where’s the boy?  He has the cups.  He’ll bring the food.  Where’s the boy Where’s the boy Where’s the boy Where’s the…sigh.

I guess I’ll lie down on the kitchen floor with mommy.  (THUD.)

Hey, there’s the boy!  He’s got the cups!  HE’S GOT THE CUPS!!  (Scitter-scitter-scitter thump thump thump thump sliiiidddde…thud.)

The food’s coming The food’s coming The food’s coming…I hear him, it’s rattling, he’s scooping it, I hear it, it’s coming it’s coming it’s coming – HE’S HERE!!

(Scitter-scitter-scitter thump thump thump thump sliiiidddde…thud.)

“SIT.”  (Butt hits floor, tail swishing back and forth.)  Watch the cup, watch the cup, food’s in the cup, right there in that cup. (Eyes glued to cup, twitching, waiting for the food to hit the bowl.)

[T-man pours food into bowl.]

FOOD!!!!!  (Shove nose into bowl, snuffle around, gobble up food.)  Yummy yummy yummy food, yummy yummy yummy. (Snuffle snuffle gobble chomp.)

Wait, where’s the food?  It’s gone?  It was just here!  Awwww….Ooh!  Water!

(Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp! Slurp!)

“GRACIE!  Wah wah-wah!  GRACIE!!  WAH WAH-WAH!!!”

(Lift dripping face from bowl, look at mommy, lie down in middle of kitchen again.)

Pet me.  Why aren’t you petting me?  What are you doing?  Stop it and pet me.  (Stare at mommy, boy, and girl with big eyes.)  I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love you I love…ahhhhh…

(Curl toes and roll onto back for belly scratches.)

You love me You love me You love me You love me…

Wait, what are you doing?  Where are you going?  You always leave me when you pick up those bags – hey, it’s daddy! Hi daddy!  Hi daddy!  Hi daddy!  Hi!!!!!

(Scitter-scitter-scitter thump thump thump thump sliiiidddde…thud.)  Don’t leave, let’s play.  See?  I want to play!  Let’s play! Let’s play let’s play let’s play let’s play let’s – awwww…

(Paws thump up on front door.  Watch daddy, boy, and girl walk to car then land back on floor with a THUD.)

Okay, mommy, let’s play!
