“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”
– Desmond Tutu
There can be no more standing by quietly, offering up sympathy as we long for a better day. Not now. Not anymore.
We do not have the luxury of watching horrific injustice and shaking our heads, wondering what happened to the good old days. If you keep an open mind you might see that the good old days weren’t always so good. Not for everyone, anyway.
Humans stubbornly insist on wearing blinders, offering up flimsy excuses for why this issue or that is not their business. The amount of injustice in the world is terrifyingly vast – genocide, rape, abuse, incest, hunger, homelessness – the list goes on and on. We simply cannot look at other human beings suffering brutalities and walk away.
Common decency demands action.
