If you had an unlimited shopping spree at only one store, which one would you choose? Why?
I’d probably pick TJ Maxx. The pull of Target was almost undeniable, but in the end I’d love to have an unlimited spree at the Maxx. The activewear section alone would be fa-bu-lous. Then there’s kitschy things for the kitchen, clothes for the kids, the really neat finds for nooks and crannies. It would be like Christmas morning.
What is the worst thing you ate recently?
Can you believe I can’t think of a single thing?! I have to pick what goes into my body so carefully right now that I don’t stray far from foods that taste good to me. I guess the closest thing I can come up with is a new recipe for roasted sugar snap peas I tried last week – it called for Italian seasoning, and that spice was way too strong for the peas. It hardly falls into the “worst thing” category, though.
Name five things you like watching…
This Is Us, Psych, Atypical, any movie with Will Smith in it, and guilty pleasure movies (lately that’s been Bring It On and Dirty Dancing).
On a less media-based note: my dogs wrestling, Bear playing basketball, snow falling, waves hitting the shore (any sort of water, really), and T-man’s expression when he tastes something I’ve cooked that’s delicious.
What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.
Saturday was wonderful. I woke up without an alarm and cooked breakfast for us. Well, for BrightSide and me. There was kale in those eggs and even I know better than to try to get my kids to eat eggs with green stuff. We relaxed and watched a movie. Plus I planned to do batch cooking, and it turned out to be really fun. I made apple pie oatmeal from steel cut oats (which, sadly, I don’t think I can eat)…plus white bean chicken chili and no-noodle chicken soup and turkey burgers. There’s a shelf in my freezer for food now, and the look on BrightSide’s face when he realized I was making chicken soup from scratch scratch? As in boiling-a-whole-chicken-with-onion-celery-and-carrots-to-make-stock kind of scratch? Priceless. He busted out with “You’re doing GRANDMA cooking!” Love it.
Cee’s Share Your World drops on Mondays, so this is my belated entry for the week.
What’s happening in your world?
I’m with you on TJ Maxx.

I love a good Maxx discovery. Just walking through the doors is a commitment, though — if you don’t buy it on the spot, there’s a good chance it won’t be there if you go back. Gives a new meaning to the phrase impulse buy.

I could never count how many times I’ve watched it. My top 3 older girly movies are, Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, and The Bodyguard. 🙂

Grandma cooking is the best kind, and the good news is when feeding only one person, you don’t have to cook often. As long as you don’t mind repeats for dinner for a few nights. I made healthy cookies the other day – well, they must be healthy because they have zucchini and oats in them and the chocolate chips are dark chocolate. Healthy, right?
