You gotta love it when you have the chance to look back on your journey and reflect. It’s brain jangling sometimes. Not necessarily in a “what was I thinking?” way, but the “if I knew then what I know now…” factor runs high. Here are a few thoughts that have been banging around my head this week.

I wonder about T-man. BrightSide and I wanted our son to have a family name, something from generations past to carry forward with him into the world. T-man came to us at ten months old, though, so his first name is a family name and his middle is his birth name. It seemed so logical at the time, but now that I think about child development in those first ten months I wonder…should we have changed his name? Maybe our family name should have become his middle name instead.

I wonder about milestones. What was T-man’s first word? When did he start crawling? What made him laugh for the first time? All moments we missed, and I don’t even have the stories to share with him.

I wonder about the pregnancies. What were those months like? Were their birthmoms stressed out all the time, or did they have someone to support them? Were their days spent worrying about the future, caught up in the joy of pregnancy, or some mix of everything?

I wonder about genetics. What was your birthmom’s medical history? Does your family struggle with inherited diseases or disorders?  Is there a health issue I should be watching that I don’t even know I should be watching?

I also wonder about other genetics like where did those freckles come from? Who else in your family has such long fingers and toes? And exactly how tall are you folks planning to get, anyway?
