earworm: a catchy song or tune that runs continually through a person’s mind
Okay, then, now that we’re sure about the definition of this week’s stream of consciousness prompt…There are a couple of groups that regularly put an earworm in my brain.
Maroon 5 has been responsible for more than a few bouts of humming in the parking lot. “Sugar,” “This Love,” and “Harder to Breathe” have all stuck solid, sometimes disappearing for a while only to return when I catch it on the radio again.
Imagine Dragons can do a solid loop in the noggin, too. “Thunder,” “Believer,” and “Radioactive” have all spent time on mental repeat, and I can’t say that I mind.
Less fun examples of stuff that gets stuck and just won’t get out no matter how hard I head bang: “The Wheels on the Bus Go ‘Round and ‘Round” (ack! shoot me now!), the “Jeopardy” countdown ditty (doo-da doo-doo doo-da-doo…), the alphabet song (L-M-N-O-P is the bane of my existence), and “YMCA” all come to mind.
Is it weird that I don’t have a habitual earworm? It seems like there are folks who’ve got a special song, one that spins ’round and ’round their head, but me? Nope. Nada. I’d like to think it’s because there’s always music flowing around here. Or maybe I’ve got too much other junk cluttering up the gray matter for spare musical hoo ha.
Either way, I appreciate the general silence.
Linda’s stream of consciousness prompt drives our Saturday fun. This week’s prompt is “earworm. Talk about your latest earworm, or one that habitually haunts you.”
I wish it were only ‘good’ songs that got stuck in my head….

I am 100% with you on silence. I love music. Love it. It’s downright constant in our house. For doing, for chilling, for practicing, but ah, the silence. I think better in the silence. Half of my earworms are pieces I don’t even know — because the cellist is playing them, and what song do you ever hear just the cello part? lol

Sometimes, in a really weird twist of logic, I forget I love the silence. Alexa is running NPR or CNN while I’m getting stuff done, and when I sit down to write I get stuck. I can’t straighten my thoughts out enough to put them on paper…until I realize it’s because some anchor’s jabbering at me. Sheesh!

For some weird reason, I don’t seem to mind having the Jeopardy song stuck in my head🤔

It’s so weird…it’s not like I’m a huge fan of the show. I haven’t watched it in years!

So many songs, such a little head. But Mairzy Doats has been with me for decades. And God help me, Row, Row, Row Your Boat. One of my favorites, He Stopped Loving Her Today. RESPECT floats through on occasion as does How Much Is That Doggie In The Window? Have no clue what triggers them…… probably faulty wiring!! Lol. Hey! Somebody’s got to be nuts, right? To make the rest of you look sane.

Oh yes, row row row was the first song I learned as a round & it took MONTHS to ditch it. 😆

Some of your songs often make their way into my mind as well!

They’re universal. Another reason why I couldn’t be a preschool teacher and stay sane…bwhahaha!!

All good ones. I had all but forgotten about YMCA but the aground crew at the Yard Goats ball game stops while refreshing the base lanes and does the dance moves. It’s hilarious but it leaves the song stuck for about a week.

True! I picked it up again recently at some evening function — they started playing it, kids hit the dance floor, and I thought crud THERE’S the song I’ll be hearing for the next 2 weeks. 🙄

The first time to notice that nada means nothing. This is so funny because while reading your blog, i stopped at Nada and remembered one of my old friends.
It is a popular Arabic girl name, it means morning dew.
Thanks for sharing.
