Simply responding with “not all” is another from of privilege.
“So let’s cut the shit . . .
If you’re a white person and you’re saying, “Not ALL of us are like that” or you’ve accused a black person of “generalizing” or you’ve demanded a person of color to correct him or herself, understand that you’re not just asserting your privilege to shape the discourse around racism; you’re also demonstrating a staggering lack of empathy. You’re acting as if your implicit limited understanding of racism is more accurate and ‘true’ than the lived experiences of people who actually face racism every day, as if your sensitivities are more important than what the individual is going through.”
Calling Out Black Folk’s For Generalizing is In and Of Itself, Racism! : Abassi Okoro
Good point. And it cuts both (all … because black and white aren’t the only ‘colors) ways.. acceptance period SHOULD be the goal. (and I’m a member of the grammar police..tell me: Did that apostrophe bother you too? 😉 ) Thanks for sharing!

YES YES YES. It was force of will to quote correctly because my internal editor is always running…🙄
His post makes so much sense to me. Say overwhelming statistics indicate white folks shoot up schools – then SAY white folks shoot up schools. It doesn’t mean ALL white folks shoot up schools or that a black person NEVER shoots up a school. But seriously, I get push back on this, & I don’t get it.
