“Community college is fucking amazing. It’s a great way to get all of your prerequisites out of the way and kind of feel out the whole college experience without having to amass a lifetime of debt in the process. People give community college kids hell because they think it’s somehow lesser or makes you trash and I hope you spit on those people. I hope you laugh at their crushing debt. I hope you make them cry. Leave community college kids alone. They are doing the best they can and they are the ones who are out there taking advantage of what little their country is doing to help them with education and they deserve your respect. Anyone who wants to further their own education in any way deserves your respect and you damn well better recognize.”

That was beautiful! I love how you stood up to the snobs who would put down Community Colleges!

Three years at a community college (I didn’t want to leave) worked wonders for my self esteem. I was active in student government, drama club, school newspaper, etc. I got to be a big fish in a little pond. It made a good platform to transfer to a university and finish up my degree.

I love these stories! My niece is finding her first real post-high school success at a technical school and it’s so great to see.

Well said! All of my sons started out with two years in Community College. I got my Associates Degree in Community College. Everything you said is absolutely right on! 🙂

The authors on that blog don’t mince words but I find they’re usually right on the money. I went to a four year university and don’t wish I hadn’t, but I do think sometimes about how much money we paid for intro Chemistry and other basic requirements. If I knew then what I know now…

Completely agree, and also, a whole lot of Community College students graduate being highly employable, at least in Canada.

So true! Their career offices are outstanding, and a lot of the time you’re able to really narrow down what you’re interested in instead of getting a general Arts degree.

Totally agree. So tired of people looking down their noses as those who went/go to a community, or a vocational school. At least they are doing something besides having one big party because they’re away from home for the first time.

It really is one of the most responsible choices out there sometimes. Wish I could say it’s kids making themselves look smarter by dogging on their peers but I think a lot of adults do this sort of thing, too…
