“Active shooter days are hard for me. I know they’re hard for everybody. I know that a lot of people take comfort in that saying from Mister Rogers: ‘When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’
The problem is that I am one of the helpers. And here’s the cold hard truth, America: the helpers aren’t going to make it in time. Between 2000 and 2013 the FBI reported there were 160 active shooter situations, the majority of which ended quickly. “In 63 incidents where the duration of the incident could be ascertained, 44 (69.8%) of 63 incidents ended in 5 minutes or less, with 23 ending in 2 minutes or less.” “
Everyday seem to get the active shooter news message from America. I know it’s a different country and I don’t get the full background. Plus our country has so many problems. But it does make me so sad for you.

It really is such a tragedy, and the fact that it keeps happening over and over again without any real change makes me so sad, too. I worry that the group mentality here has lost all perspective on the value of human life.

You are so right. Your country sounds like ours. If you disagree with the accepted norm then you are branded either a socialist or traitor.

Hard to like this post. When and where I grew up it was a big thing if two kids got into a fist fight.

Hard to grasp how far out of control things have gotten. I think sometimes people are at a loss for how we even start to find our way back to something normal.

I read your post, and the post to which it is linked, right after yet another debate with someone I know about guns. I am sad.

I started to comment, but it was far too long a comment, so I reblogged your post and wrote my own:
