Damn, y’all. Karma.

Huh. That seems…coincidental. Or maybe prophetic. I dunno.

I’ve been listening to people in the media praising young heroes. Eighteen-year-old Kendrick Castillo lunged at a classmate who pulled a gun on Tuesday. Last week twenty-one-year-old Riley Howell charged a gunman who entered a lecture room at UNC Charlotte. The fact that these young people are dying is tragic. The fact that legislators won’t pass responsible gun laws to protect students is obscene.

There’s a lot of discussion about the new heartbeat bill Georgia’s governor signed into law this week. Without engaging on the debate about abortion rights – look at Carliss Chatman’s tweet. You can be anti-abortion but you cannot call yourself pro-life if you don’t give that six-week fetus every protection.

I get it. It’s the end of the year. You’re stressed. Your budget’s blown. BUT YOU STILL HAVE TO PUT KIDS BEFORE DOLLARS. Always.

Sandra Bland was found hanged in a jail cell three days after this was taken. One commenter noted, “It’s like she’s talking to us from the grave.” Pay attention.

Apple has an app called Shortcuts with one option called “Police.” This is how it works. You say, “Hey Siri, I’m getting pulled over.” The program pauses any music you’re playing, turns down the brightness, and turns on “do not disturb” mode. It sends a text to a pre-determined contact telling them you’ve been pulled over and begins recording using the iPhone’s front facing camera. Once you’ve stopped recording it can text or e-mail the video to a pre-determined contact or save it to Dropbox.

The ACLU website has state-specific apps for both IOS and Android devices. The app will automatically send an audio/video recording to your state’s ACLU and offers you a chance to complete an incident report. This app also has a “Witness” feature that allows you to know if people around you are getting stopped by the police (or to ask others to witness your own stop). Not all states are listed yet but more apps are in development.
