Would (or do) you stop to help (presumably) stranded folks by the side of the road?
I really struggle with this one. I want to stop, but I’ve always weighed how risky it would be. Once I had kids riding around with me this became a solid no – there was no way to be sure I wouldn’t put myself or the kids in danger. The last time we stopped our family was on the way to the lake when we saw a mother and young girl sitting with their car near an intersection in the country. We made sure they had help on the way then shared the water and snacks we had with us. I was grateful BrightSide was with us so we could stop.
Do you think the world is less mannerly today than in past times OR are we just more touchy and manners are as they’ve always been?
No, I’d say things are definitely less mannerly. There’s something about being told to f*ck off over a parking space that makes one weep for humanity.
What happens if you’re scared half to death, TWICE?
Then it sounds like someone’s really good at following through.
If ALL the world’s a stage, where does the audience sit?
There shall be no sitting. NONE. Everybody is to walk the aisles in an endless standing ovation. Thank you very much.
Share your thankful comments here. It’s a gorgeous day most places, so celebrate!
The flowers are blooming, the kitty is snuggly, the dogs have behaved wonderfully with our sleepover guests, and we found someplace that makes the best salmon and she-crab soup in town. Mmmm.

B always stops. Not that long ago he gave a ride to a man and his daughter when their vehicle broke down on the side of the road. I don’t stop because A – I’d be no help especially if it involved mechanical things and B – I am scared. My MO is to call 911 and that I have done a time or two. When you hear about different ruses people play … some times involving kids, better to be safe and leave help to the experts.

Yes, I think a lot of us feel this way. I wish I didn’t have to worry about being scared. That part kinda sucks.

Thanks Laura, for Sharing Your World! When hubby was alive, I was more inclined to stop and help someone if they were stranded. Oddly enough HE never wanted to get involved. I remember one time I witnessed a woman get run over and dragged by a pickup truck. Hubby didn’t see it, but saw the aftermath and he was all “Let’s get OUT OF HERE right now.” I jumped out of the car and ran to the woman to see if there were anything i could do until the authorities showed up. Hubby was sure pissed off and said “why was it any of your business??” He was weird like that. Now that I’m alone it’s rare that I’d stop for anyone because old(er) women are so often targets. Sad old world indeed.

It really is. Like I said below, a lot of this is individual character/personality/belief system. Some people are just the “it doesn’t involve me so leave me out of it” sort, but I’ve always believed we’re better off when we look out for one another. Being a woman makes that harder sometimes. 😦

I am with you as well. I listen to the holy spirit and if is says ok, then I help. I know some don’t believe in that but it has never let me down.

I think we all do better when we listen to that quiet voice inside. I’ve heard people call it different things but they rarely say it steered them in the wrong direction. 💛

You’re a DUDE. I thought that automatically made the whole want to stop and help someone stranded a bit easier. Shame on me for profiling you! 🙂

Things have reached a point where being comfortable about stopping has more to do with the individual and less to do with gender. Too much stuff happening to all of us these days…
