Seeing as I’m not a car person I’m just gonna pull this one out of my – ahem – hat. It never stops being the car that you bought, it just stops being the car that you recognize. Maybe it sounds different or drives different, and it certainly smells different, but it will always and forever be the car your brought home with that VIN number. As for replacing enough parts to make the car new again…that kind of smacks of born-again virgins. I’ll refrain from making that inappropriate joke now.

Thanks for Sharing Your World, Laura! Do you subscribe to the ‘if you’re coming to the end of your rope, tie a knot in it?” thinking? Because I always wondered how someone slipping down a rope and falling had a hand free to do that, or how they maintained the presence of mind to do it either. Those are things I think about sometimes (like Allie, my perspective can be a bit skewed). And feel free to share the inappropriate! 😉 Being a fan, I wouldn’t complain! 😀

I like gratitude. It seems to be programmed into my DNA. I wonder about people who are ungrateful. Are they doing it on purpose? Or are they grateful and so unaware of who they are, that they don’t know they’re grateful? [Yes, these are things I think about.]

I also wonder. I’ve always been a bright side person. I see the bad thing first, but immediately replace it with bright side, silver lining, or ‘at least it’s not…’ — I had some things I wasn’t doing that with, and it caused me trouble and I had to learn to do it– forced at first, and over time, I feel I have mastered it. In truth, I sometimes falter, but I catch myself. For me, gratitude is essential.
My husband is generally ungrateful. He’d tell you he’s a realist or whatever, but I’d tell you if I were that negative, I’d be physically ill and mentally unhinged. Also, in my wonder and study of this behavior there’s more in the ‘nurture’ than the ‘nature’ aspect there. With the boy at home this summer, I’ve caught and corrected him a few times. “Why do you think that?” “Why would you give any time and power to that thought?”
Then The Mister says I’m a Pollyanna and I proudly announce, “Okay, but I’m the happiest person in the house!”

So I dunno, but I really do think about it. I’ve taken in some observation and pondered.

There’s real power in owning that positive outlook. I was like your husband for a very long time. I always claimed being realistic is what kept me sane, but the truth is that form of “realism” broke me. I was angry, frustrated, irritated so much of the time because instead of accepting reality I was fighting against it. I’m much better now and I’ve got folks around me who are good at reminding me when I forget. 🙂

Yet again I would vote for you. Maybe we still have time to attach some more rope to the end but it’s getting mighty slippy. On the car front I suspect my gearstick and steering wheel are the same the rest is ……

Slippery is a good description. We’re coming up on getting another family car and have been emphasizing to the teens that fancy is the farthest thing from our priority — safety features, sturdy, good value. Period. They’re not really thrilled. 😆
