Honestly, nothing cracks me up like one of my kids freaking out as they lunge for the car radio, desperate to change the station before I hear more than five beats of a song. When I ask – and I always ask because reactions that strong are entertaining – they say Well, mom, you’re not gonna like it.
And now I’m curious. When did my kids get the idea my head would burst into flames if the sound of – GASP – rap music fell upon my delicate virgin ears? Seriously, I’m wracking my brain here and can’t remember a single instance when I flipped out over music. Unless you count that time the Dora the Explorer theme song came on but come on, you can’t really count that one, that shit’s annoying.
We had the most fun cleaning up after dinner the other night (no, I can’t really believe I just wrote that) playing music on the Echo. Bear and I took turns picking songs. Hers would start playing to T-man’s horrified expression; mine would begin to cries of More white people music?! Aaaggh.
Teenage critique aside, I loved hearing songs at the top of Bear’s playlist. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pretty old, so there were more than a few sections where I appreciated the beat but couldn’t understand a damn thing they were saying. But it was still a piece of her wrapped up in kitchen dancing, and that’s pretty darn good for a Tuesday night.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “wrap/rap.” Use one, use both (for bonus points), use ’em any way you’d like. Enjoy!
We listen to it all, all of us. Although, I must say Sassy and I have more shared music than the rest of us. Kitchen dancing is all the rage 😛

Burns calories as you clean the dishes. What’s not to like? 😆

This reminds me of road trips my daughter and I used to take when she was a teenager. She’d teach me songs by Evanescence and Pink who I would otherwise not have know about. I taught her a couple songs from the 70s, though sometimes they would put her to sleep. 🙂 There was always some overlap of what we liked.

How awesome is that? I think we’ve got more in common than we know sometimes, and all we have to do is get closed into small spaces to appreciate it. 🙂

It’s great that your kids consider your taste in music by switching off what they ‘think’ you won’t like. My granddaughter, when she travels in the car with us, will connect to her iPhone and play music from the sixties which she has collected and loves. “Because I know you and Grandpa will love these songs, Gran!” I am amazed that she doesn’t force her more modern choices upon us although we DO listen to all kinds of music.

What a thoughtful young lady! This is a nice way to look at it. I’d assumed they were worried I wouldn’t like what they were listening to, but this is a kinder interpretation. 🙂

I enjoy the music and the tune! Sometimes I don’t understand a word of it. And sometimes the song is in Spanish, so …..

Ooh, songs in Spanish can be beautiful!! Every once in a while I’ll catch a word I understand but usually it’s all feeling. 💛

All humor aside, I think spreading around the song picks is a good thing. That sounds like a wonderful Tuesday.

It’s great here. My hubby & I have extremely different taste in music – I think it’s good for them to see not everyone fits in the same mold.

so funny. we used to take turns in the car, picking a song. sometimes I would choose silence for mine, but we always enjoyed hearing each others’ songs, even if it was to act horrified. )

It’s great fun! And hey, even if you hate it, it’s only 3-4 minutes. 😉

Luckily rap is jointly banned in this house. Hopefully I’m the parent who tells his son to turn UP the music he’s playing.

I think they like it when you enjoy hearing their music. Wishing you many years of blissful jam sessions. 🙂
