“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity.”
I know this – I really do – but sometimes I still forget. I can’t figure out what’s wrong & then get outside for a walk & BAM. It’s like I’m a new person.
Amen. Every time I go to the mountains, I feel like I’m going home. It’s a spiritual thing, I think.

Yes. I’d always considered myself a beach person so I was rather surprised to find such a deep connection to the mountains.

Me, too. I often wonder if I lived full time in the mountains, if I would be drawn more to the beach.

Totally agree. We all need to get into the wilds from time to time. It certainly refreshes the soul

This is so true. We all need to reconnect. Rather spookily I was reading his Wilderness Essays on Friday night.

There’s something about John Muir that just makes it all so clear.
