Multiple perspectives are useful. I think Morrison’s point (though I’d need to revisit the book to be positive) was that the opinion was unsolicited.

I agree. Women are taught on almost a subliminal level to defer, that a man’s opinion carries more worth or weight than her own. It can be a hard pattern to break.
