Is copying and pasting images or information off the Internet plagiarism? Do you credit those whose work you ‘borrow freely’ or do you think the idea is repugnant? (Credit for this question goes to GC and Sue)
I think giving proper credit is an important part of being a responsible writer. I know how ticked I’d be if someone lifted my work then dropped it as their own so I try very hard not to be part of the problem. Now whether my credit meets proper MLA standards is another thing altogether.
Do you let sleeping dogs lie?
Mostly. Snoozing dogs always get rallied for that late night backyard pee since I’m really not down for a 6am wakeup call.
What’s the strangest pet name (for adults) that you’ve ever heard someone called?
Lover. I don’t think of myself as a particularly prudish girl but there’s just something weird about hearing someone say this. I tend to hear it in this long drawn out porn version: luveeerrrrrrrrr.
Do you like to dance? If yes, what’s your favorite and if no, why not?
Yes, but mostly in the privacy of my own home. I simply feel too spazzy to demand the dance floor in public. Anything with a good beat will get me boogying around the kitchen – right now Lizzo is practically on repeat.
November brings Thanksgiving to Americans. I know Canada celebrates Thanksgiving too, but I believe it’s in October. Does your country celebrate a similar holiday? If you’d like, share some traditions you observe around Thanksgiving or if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, what are some traditions you have?
Our Thanksgiving holiday revolves around family meals. Each year my family gathers on Thanksgiving Day itself. We make a traditional meal (turkey with the trimmings) and celebrate a birthday or two with some of Bee’s fabulous cakes, and for the last few years we’ve each named something we’re thankful for as part of the blessing. BrightSide’s family gets together on the Saturday following Thanksgiving for their own traditional meal (ham with the trimmings). I’m in charge of bringing the homemade pound cake – this is always Friday’s project as I’m recovering from my food coma and we’re putting up Christmas decorations. The “kids”/cousins (who now reach into their twenties) always pull names that day for Christmas presents.

Thanks Laura for Sharing Your World! Your Thanksgiving feast sounds scrumptious (both of them)… And my furkids get both a late night wee call and an early morning one. I do the first, they do the second. I think Pudge (who is getting on in years) can’t wait. I can relate. 🙂

I’m partial to our turkey meal, mostly because that’s what I grew up on. I’m thinking about springing a veggie on the Saturday crew just for kicks and giggles this year. 😉

Down near Plymouth lots of people use “lover” as a friendly name in greetings.
“Alright my lover?”
In Liverpool, people call each other “love”.
In Stoke, people call each other “duck”.
What makes me smile with all of the above is that they are used with everyone – man, woman, child, nobody is excluded. It almost sounds comical when you are new to the area.

Oh, duck is adorable!! “Love” is a good one, too. I wonder what it is about that R that makes it sound icky to me…huh…

I totally understand you. When I was in Plymouth and people I had only just met were calling me their lover…it was very strange.

I’m with you on the copy/paste with credit. Sometimes, it’s hard to make your point without a quote/image, but give credit and I try to link back to the original. I think this is also important when bloggers like yourself inspire me to go off on a tangent 😏

The greatest challenge is how scattershot inspiration can be — if I’m not good about attaching a note about the source it’s impossible to find them again so I singlehandedly support the east coast Post It note sales. Whatever works. 😉

I use Trello, but Post It notes work

I actually have your post on Trello up on my desktop and have slowly been transferring my stuff there — but by slowly I mean something like 6-8 months now so it’s a work in progress.

That’s way faster than the people I introduced it to at work.

I agree about the credits, and always try to be diligent about putting them at the bottom of my posts, though not in what could be considered correct form. p.s. I love a good pound cake

Now if I can just figure out how to make a good one with gluten free flour…mmmm…

I never heard of a pound cake. Had visions of it being round and full of fruit. How wrong I was. Looks tasty though.
