Dreams are a tricky thing. Most of mine come when I’m stressed out about something so I’m sure it will shock nobody to hear I’m not exactly dancing through fields of daisies. Nope. Nada dancing, nada daisies.
This is assuming I can even remember my dreams. A lot of the time they’re gone the second I’m awake, whisking off like kids after the ice cream truck music. If my wake up moment was a gif, my dreams would be that WHOOSH! Beep Beep! moment when Roadrunner flies off down the road. Just…BOOM. Gone.
But sometimes I remember bits and pieces, maybe just enough to cobble together a post about dreams. Here are a few of those nocturnal meanderings.
- being chased down the street at night
- running late to an appointment and realizing I don’t have the one thing I have to have with me
- dark elevators
- getting stuck in one of those hedge mazes (yeah, no idea, I must have eaten nachos too late that night)
Well, that doesn’t look very good now, does it? Most of the dreams that stick are panicky, terrifying, stressful, or scary. I’d like to think my nightly psychic adventures aren’t entirely composed of freakout material; I’d like to think there’s some dreams that pass through featuring ice cream and rainbow sprinkles.
I’d like to think that…but then I kick BrightSide in my dream running and I come back down to earth.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “dream.” Use it as a noun or a verb; use any way you’d like. Enjoy!
I’m more likely to remember my dreams if I sleep late, probably because I’m not sleeping as deeply. I know you don’t get to sleep in a lot, but I do hope you have some sweet dreams. Maybe hang some stars in that dark elevator?

Ooh, I’ll tuck that one in my subconscious. Stars in the dark elevator, packing hedge clippers in my dream trunk…

Yes! That’s the idea!

Being late is my reoccurring dream never without what a need though just late which in my waking life would drive me bonkers.

I *despise* being late. I also run perilously close to being late to most everything and no, I don’t usually feel like I have a good reason. So Much Stress.

I used to dream I was incompletely dressed and was terribly embarrassed. The older I get, the less it bothers me in my dream, and nobody else ever notices. Probably wouldn’t be a good idea to try it IRL, though.

I guess depending on which state you’re in (and which state of undress) the consequences could be extreme! 😆

I often remember my dreams when I awaken during the dark hours, but come morning little remains except the feeling. That’s probably good because often that feeling involves being trapped. I blame that on politics.

Yes, current events are definitely part of how stress appears at night with me. Icky.

There are nightmares and then there are daymares. One of them we can get away from by opening our eyes. The other one our eyes are already open… and then they are opened again.

That’s gonna have me thinking for a while, John…

The “not have what I need,” kind of dream is one I have as well. Don’t even want to know what it means. Good job, Laura.

Thanks, John. Did this one late last night so I’m lucky anything coherent ended up on the screen!!

Sounds like you need some ‘you’ time. Hope you find some.

True. When the panicky dreams get frequent I try to check out for a bit. 🙂

Maybe you’re hiding in that dark elevator while the rest of the world is attending a school play or a parent-teacher conference.

Which would be an excellent use of the elevator, I think. 😉

I remember one dream a night the rest just are forgotten. Was not always like this.

Yes, I used to remember my dreams, too…

I very rarely remember my dreams. Yeah, only the scary and panicky ones stick around long enough. 👍🤓

Nopes! I think it’s a universal phenomenon.
