What is truth? (Credit to Ursula https://anupturnedsoul.wordpress.com/2019/12/05/which-side-of-the-mirror-are-you-on/ )
A lack of deception or intent to deceive. It can also be pretty freaking rare.
What’s one thing people would never know about you just by looking at you?
I can finish off an entire bowl of queso in one sitting.
Do loud noises bother you?
Oh yes. I get terrible headaches if I’m in a space with pounding noise for too long – the smaller the space, the worse it is. This is probably one of the reasons I really don’t like fireworks.
If you were guaranteed the correct answer to just one question, what would you ask?
So what exactly was the point of calculus in my life?
What fills YOUR heart with joy?
The smell of fresh baked bread, warm toes on a cold winter day, car dancing with the kiddos, and happy dog grins.

Thanks Laura for Sharing Your World. I’m chiming in on the whole calculus discussion….I NEVER took calculus. And I think that I approach most subjects logically and sensibly even though I never learnt calculus. I have two siblings who took it and they both say it’s useless too. So with respect, either that particular subject was and is taught wrong, because so many never ‘get’ it OR it’s useless. I don’t know. Ain’t that logical because possibly of my lack of education. 😐 And your first response about truth? It IS rare, these days, in fact so rare that I believe it’s on the endangered ‘species’ list and in danger of becoming extinct. Another four years under a certain ‘leadership’ should do the trick. 😐

It was always my belief that calculus was for math people, and that surely there was a math people career where calculus was necessary for success. Let’s just say I was never anywhere near that field of study!

I know you weren’t looking for an answer, but it’s a pet peeve of mine, so…The point of calculus in your life is that it helped you understand where and when you can look for facts to explain things as opposed to simply relying on opinions. It helped teach you to go beyond the headlines and the hype being spewed by talking heads and look at the numbers, the trends, and see what they are telling us.
I’ve been here long enough to know that you dig for truth more often than you are swayed by opinion. You may not believe it, but learning things like calculus helped you decide to approach life like that.
I rarely leave links in comments (and I know you will have to moderate) but I wrote about this very early in my blogging journey (almost no one read it) – https://nofacilities.com/2012/07/29/algebra-and-other-painful-necessities/

You make a good point, Dan. I’m trying very hard to see calculus in that light — I think part of my problem is that I took it in high school and felt ridiculously out of my depth, so whenever I think about calculus it’s with this undefined sense of panicky doom. It felt like one of those classes where you learn what your teacher wants to hear, but that may have just been my survival mode. I’m betting the experience would have been different as an adult.
And I loved your post! Thanks for linking it here.

I feel the same way about grammar. I’m glad you like that early post. Thanks for taking a look at it. I’ve been thinking about revising/reposting it. But, you know, math…
