Trude Lamb is a rising sophomore in Texas who’s speaking out. Members of her Tyler, Texas community are petitioning once again to rename their high school. They pushed the school board to rename Robert E. Lee High School in 2018 without success, but Lamb’s letter and student activism is bringing the issue into focus again. Lamb and the other top three runners on the cross country team have pledged that they will no longer wear Lee’s name on their jerseys.

It makes me happy when our students speak out for their beliefs. I hope some of the ones that have suffered from our society in any way will go on to become members of our government – perhaps then something will actually get done. I realize it’s a different topic, but some of those Parkland, Florida kids after the shooting at their school seem to show they could have bright futures.

No, this is totally on point. I was so impressed with how those kids stepped into activist roles. They’ve had some success with their movement — I hope some of them go on to governmental leadership!

I love seeing girls in high school who already know themselves.
