In your opinion, what’s the closest thing to real magic?
Watching bread rise. Sure, you can go on about yeast and other science-y things but seeing that dough puff up looks pretty magical to me.
Where is the worst smelling place you’ve been?
Top of this list has to be the handful of times I’ve had to use a Port-a-Potty in the dead heat of summer. You haven’t smelled impenetrable putridness until you’ve spent more than five seconds in a 100 degree portable toilet.
What are some things that you’ve heard in your own life, which sounded like compliments but were actually insults?
“You’ve got a pretty head on your shoulders.”
“Well, this tastes…interesting.”
“You’re so lucky! I can’t hardly ever find shoes in a size six.”
What incredibly common thing have you never done?
Smoked, gone blonde, or flipped burgers for a paycheck.
Please feel free to share some gratitude that you experienced during the past week! 🙂
That Slow Cooker Chicken Enchilada Dip I tried over the weekend is heavenly. Recipe gathering is practically a hobby now, but I realized there’s no way of knowing when I’ll need a party appetizer again…then I thought, why wait? Why not hold our own little party with cheesy chicken dip? So we did. And it was fabulous.

I’m with you on that smell. At least we get to stand.

Thanks Laura for Sharing Your World!! Fresh homemade bread rising? That IS magical and it smells more so (to me)… I love yeasty bread or rolls as they ‘grow’! ❤ I admit to laughing aloud at the port-a-potty stench comment. Yes that STINKS!! to high frickin' heaven, but at least the user doesn't have to worry about transporting that pot and it's contents to whereever they take it to clean it out. Can you imagine? I thought your list of "normal' mundane things was brilliant, I've never gone blonde (either), but I was blonde, so coals to Newcastle? I did smoke for about three seconds. It ruined the taste of everything else, and I love food best of all, so the ciggies? Went in the can. I never flipped burgers nor waitressed either. Maybe we were just rebels? 😆 Your cheesy chicken dip sounds very tasty too!

I swear, I lost several years of my life in those Port-a-Potties. Just occurred to me that the only thing was was the few times the kids were too little & needed an escort — struggling kids out of and back into their pants while convincing them that yes, it was a great idea to hover over a scary bottomless looking hole to pee was a special kind of hell. 😆

Oh yes. My mom used to make this incredible braided sweet bread when I was growing up — I still remember how it felt the moment I smelled the dough and realized what would be on the counter that afternoon!

I think during this lockdown many of us have made breads and have witnessed the magic!
