Light as a feather, stiff as a board. Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
Anyone who’s ever been a twelve-year-old girl or had a twelve-year-old girl or hosted a twelve-year-old’s sleepover knows exactly what this means. In fact it’s so universal that despite never participating in or hosting this particular rite of passage even I have light as a feather, stiff as a board stuck in my head. Sometimes that thing really digs in, too.
Kick it out, though, and close behind you’ve got “Shake Ya Tailfeather”. Because of course you do.
It’s got to be said — today’s stream of consciousness has taken a weird, weird turn.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness. This week’s prompt is “song.” First, find a picture–the closest one to you (a picture of feathers on the bookshelf). Your prompt is the title and/or the lyrics of the first song that comes to mind when you look at the picture. Have fun!
I missed that game. It is like playing with a Ouija board?

Yes, I think so. One girl lays on her back & the others surround her, putting their pinky fingers (or is it index fingers?) beneath her. The chant is supposed to, um, I don’t know. Maybe summon the spirits or something so the girl levitates? Boy, that sounds even crazier now that I’ve written it out. 😆

Do you remember the movie *The Blues Brothers*, where Ray Charles has his pawnshop and there’s that mural of all different bluesmen on the side of the building? That’s a real place (assuming it hasn’t been torn down or otherwise modified) on 47th Street, I believe on Indiana Avenue. During a transit strike I had to walk all the way down 47th to get to the Illinois Central stop to get downtown.

I’m gonna out myself here and admit I’m one of the few folks who haven’t seen “The Blues Brothers”. I know, I know, the hubby tells me this is a crime against humanity. Neat to know it’s a real place, though.

It’s an OK movie with some funny scenes and excellent musical performances by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Cab Calloway. I don’t think I’ve seen it in 40 years.

Thankfully it remains a mystery to me.
