1. Listen to all perspectives, they say. It’s important to hear all sides of the story. And I agree…in theory.
2. I also think it’s important not to stroke out screaming at the television, so you can see how I’m torn about watching the Republican National Convention this week.
3. They’re holding some in-person events. I guess that shouldn’t surprise me given the fact a CBS News/YouGov poll showed yesterday that 57% of Republicans said the number of coronavirus deaths – over 176,000 and rising – is “acceptable”. Here’s hoping those event attendees realize their possible death is an acceptable risk for the majority of their party.
4. Word on the street is Trump will speak on all four nights of the convention. Narcissism is a bitch of a taskmaster.
5. Some of the other speakers are infamous notable. Like the St. Louis couple who made a name for themselves brandishing guns at Black Lives Matter protestors walking by their house.
6. Another winner: the Covington Catholic High School student whose confrontation with a Native American protestor and Black Hebrew Israelites went viral on social media.
7. There’s a Parkland shooting victim’s father speaking. I’m trying, y’all, I really am. His daughter died in 2018 and he’s still standing up to say another four years of President Trump’s leadership is the best way to keep students and teachers safe from school shootings. I can’t even.
8. Kellyanne freaking Conway. Jesus take the wheel.
9. Then there’s Trump’s acceptance speech on night four, a speech that he plans to give from the White House. But why am I even surprised after all the ways he’s politicized the presidency? At this rate I wouldn’t be shocked to see a giant TRUMP 2020: KEEP AMERICA GREAT! banner hanging from the Truman balcony next month.
10. So yeah, I was all in with the DNC and I’ll try to stay informed with this week’s convention, too. But I’d say for all our sakes it’d be best if I don’t plug in for two hours each night.
I agree with all of you, and Ruth’s fine line between being informed and being incensed is exactly where I am. I might be able to handle summaries. I cannot live with master liar in chief for 4 nights. Or two nights. I cannot.

It’s been a rough start so far. For some reason the hubby wanted to tune in — the only thing saving me is mercilessly mocking this lie-filled nonsense. Time for a beer, I think.

Oh maybe I’ll check in for a bit. In a few minutes. Maybe.

Funny you wrote about watching the RNC. I’ve been thinking the same. I want to keep my stress level down, so I won’t be watching any part of it just like I never watched one episode of the Apprentice.

You too? I felt like the only person left who’d never seen (and never care to see) the Apprentice. I’ve caught word that they were doing stuff during the day so now I’m confused about the whole thing. Bygones.

There are some things that even margarita therapy cannot cure. Supposedly there is an alternate convention competing with the RNC. It is called The Convention on Founding Principles. Oh and the new translation of the RNC – respect not the constitution. I am going to start my margarita therapy now. Even though it cannot cure this BS relatively speaking I will still feel better for having tried. If nothing else it will give me an excuse to leave the room for ice and tequila and then when I come back gleefully asking ” did they say anything sane or important yet ? “

No. The answer to that question will always be no. But it will matter less because you’ll be standing there with deliciously iced tequila armed with the knowledge that surely – SURELY – there are enough grownups in the country to see through this nonsense. I will raise a glass to that.

And there lies the divided. We be armed with knowledge and speaking a language and knowledge they have willingly forsaken. Now back to the ice and…

It’s the same here. The government is claiming the mess they made of things, the abandoning of care homes, the nurses having to wear plastic bags, the 60000 deaths, one of the highest death rates in the world as a great success. Apparently 40% of the population agree and 20% don’t care.

It’s astounding that 40% would shrug off 60,000 deaths as “good enough”. What is wrong with people?

I wondered if Kellyanne would still speak considering the news last night she’s leaving the White House. I guess her daughter’s news she wanted to emancipate herself was not playing well politically. I cannot listen to four days of drivel. I.cannot.

We shall all sit about drinking our drinks then. I recommend finding a brave twitter soul willing to endure the psychological pain and get updates from them. I should probably buy them a coffee, though. Or a margarita.

I have one that posts pertinent updates a few times a day. It is always easy to pop in and check her feed.

When it comes to listening to the blatant misbeliefs of that particular political party with total disbelief, I find the line between being informed and being incensed is very very fine indeed, so I won’t be watching this week 😦

Indeed. Someone *extraordinarily* pro-Trump wandered onto the blog and has started leaving comments on the #DemConvention post last week. I hung in there with responding to his first semi-reasonable comment but when I woke up to three more this morning with too many misleading/outright false items to count I had to tag out. Must.control.my.blood.pressure!

Agreed. I saw one of the twitter accounts I follow suggest they set up a rotation — one person responsible for watching and reporting back on each night so nobody has to blind themselves every night. Sounded like a solid plan to me!

Yes, sounds like a good plan.
