Share Your World Meets Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix:
What happened to cause you to discover “bullies” were real?
I’m pretty sure nobody escapes childhood unscathed but seeing as I’ve repressed most of those memories I’ll go with this truth. The thing that made me realize bullies aren’t just a childhood affliction was joining groups like the PTA or church as a grownup and experiencing the adult version of female hierarchies. Brutal, man.
Eavesdropping- When given the chance, how often do you eavesdrop? (this may be a similar question to what some folks said they’d do with an invisibility cloak)
Recreationally I’d say that’s about 99% of the time. I respect healthy boundaries, though, so if people are having a private conversation I won’t listen in.
Escalators, at one time, were the ‘next big thing’. When was the last time you rode an escalator?
This question just made me laugh and laugh. There are no escalators in corona times! I’m seriously stretching my memory here, but I think it was last fall when I took Bear and her friend to a mall to kill the afternoon.
Have you ever ‘let’ someone win in a sports competition or a board game? How did it turn out?
That wasn’t really in my nature so I’m sure I didn’t pre-kids. Ironically my competitive nature wouldn’t really let me just give the kids a win, it was more like I didn’t try hard to beat them. Whatever, they seemed happy enough.

And now our traditional questions:
Do our fears start with our DNA? (Credit to Rory)
I don’t think all fear starts with our DNA but I do believe intergenerational trauma is passed down.
If you could have your hair any colour for 24 hours, what colour would you choose? (Credit to Sandmanjazz)
Purple if it’s streaked, red if it’s full color.
When do you think a person gets old? (Credit to Rory)
Conceptually? I’d say a person gets old when they feel old. Society tends to treat women as old once we hit forty, though, regardless of how we feel.
GRATITUDE SECTION (as always this is optional):
Please feel free to write about an uplifting moment in your life this week!
We usually take two cars when we go to the lake and this weekend was the first time the kids drove there together. More specifically the kids chose to ride there together. That was nice to see.

Thanks Laura for Sharing Your World. Wonderful answers! I agree with the adult version of bullies…only these days they rarely bother me. Because I’m meaner than they are if pushed by some entitled w*tch. I’m glad your kids are getting along so well, I think you’ll see a lot more of that as they get older too..least that’s how it worked out between me and my siblings (well until recently). Have a great week!

Thanks, Melanie. They went through a pretty rough patch for a few years there and I kept telling them they’d be closer when they got older but you know, there’s no guarantee, but I hoped. Corona days have had a weirdly helpful effect on their relationship, too. I’ll take it.

Your answer about bullying and female hierarchies rang a bell. It’s saddest to see it in places where you’re presumably working towards the common good. But you can’t get away from it, and it always catches me off guard.

Me too. It’s hard to see my kid going through it and know I can’t tell her “but it gets better once you’re out of high school”. Honestly!

It is. Sibling bickering can be rough. It’s nice to see them coming together.
