He knew COVID-19 was airborne. He knew it was more deadly than the flu. He knew there was asymptomatic spread and it endangered more than “just” our elderly and vulnerable.

Then he lied. Repeatedly.

On January 23, 2016 then candidate Donald Trump described his loyal base at a campaign rally in Iowa saying, “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”

We’re at 190,000 dead Americans and counting. Do I think being forthright about the risk and coordinating a national response would have saved them all? No. But it would have saved a lot of them. It also would have saved a lot of people who are now post-COVID infection and still struggle with long term effects.

I guess we’re about to see how many Trump loyalists will stick even after hearing these tapes.
