Well, hell. Any thoughts on what I might do with the stream of consciousness prompt flew right out the window with the news of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death. I thought nothing could touch me anymore, that we’d really reached the depths, but apparently 2020 just takes that as a challenge now. Lord only knows what the next three months will bring but for tonight I’m mourning the loss of this incredible woman.
She fought tirelessly for women’s rights. For years RBG worked to dismantle injustice in every possible form, ascending to the highest court in the land when Bill Clinton nominated her to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1993. In recent years she led the court’s liberal wing and wrote fiery dissents when she felt the majority had gone astray. Ruth Bader Ginsburg entered the law in a time when few women were attending law school. She faced and overcame remarkable challenges to become a renowned advocate for equal rights in America.
She gave us everything in service to her country. We’ve lost a lion of a woman. As Glennon Doyle says: Tonight, we mourn. Tomorrow, we fight.
**********
If you haven’t had a chance to check out an American documentary called RBG by CNN Films I highly recommend it. Also the movie On the Basis of Sex.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt (which I absolutely abandoned) is “-tion.” Find a word that ends with “tion.” Bonus points if you start your post with it. Have fun!
My hope is that her spirit will live on and continue to inspire us.

We mourn with a heavy, deep sadness and the certain knowledge that our nation will suffer in her absence.

My heart is broken but the words “tomorrow we fight” brings some semblance of encouragement. I knew she couldn’t live forever, yet I am shocked. I feel gutted by our loss.

Exactly. Each time she survived a close call over the last year I breathed a sigh of relief and said a prayer for her safety. I’m amazed at how she must have kept pushing through the pain.

My heart is so sad at her passing. I knew this was coming, but hoped she could hang on a few more months. Now I am afraid for what will happen next because most likely, we will not have another Ruth fill her seat.

Agreed. At this point I’m trying to be hopeful we can hold off Trump & McConnell from ramming another conservative through.

Maybe they’ll pick someone that the FBI is investigating (not a stretch here) so that confirmation hearings can be delayed. One of my hopeful thoughts…

It’s infuriating that we can’t just mourn. I’m terrified for what this could mean.
