New updates are dropping fast and furious now, so fast it’s almost hard to keep up.
Current covid+ diagnosis announcements (at least as of 9:30pm Friday night):
- Hope Hicks
- Donald and Melania Trump
- Chairwoman of the Republican National Committee
- the president of Notre Dame University
- two republican senators on the judiciary committee, Mike Lee and Thom Tillis
- three White House reporters
- a White House press aide
- eleven people involved in setup for the presidential debate
I’d imagine there’s a whole lot of unknowns who belong on this list considering the rah rah rally Trump held Thursday and the close quarters work environments on Air Force One and in the White House (which, I hear, typically didn’t involve masks).
I guess I should point out that #2, 4, and 5 were all present at the Rose Garden announcement of Trump’s warp speed Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. Anyone who’s seen the photos can’t be surprised – seats clumped together, next to no masks, people greeting one another with shoulder claps and elbow bumps. I dunno, man, it’s almost like this old guard doesn’t like to listen to the science-y folks.
Another story broke today that Trump showed up late to the presidential debate so he could not be tested before the event as planned. Some genius decided to ignore all evidence to the contrary and hold him to the “honor system” because if there’s anything 45 has proven himself to be it’s…truthful.
Old, new, it’s the same insanity over and over again.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “new/old.” Use either or both of the words “new and old” any way you’d like. Bonus points for starting and ending with either one. Have fun!
COVID infection is a natural consequence of 45’s behavior. But he’s pulling others in with him. Thank you for the list which makes it more personal. I often wonder what Melania thinks. I also wonder how many people who tested positive were/are asymptomatic.

That is a huge problem really. People keep waiting for horrible illness to test but I think there’s more asymptomatic transmission than we know. And yes, this was only a matter of time. Frankly I’m shocked it took this long.

Trump knew he was sick when he covered these events. Especially, the Tuesday night debate. My guess is over a 100 people will test positive from Chump Trump’s reckless behavior.
Chump Trump should be charged with reckless behavior with intent to spread an infectious disease.
Recently, the US Justice Department announced that any individual who purposefully spreads COVID-19 could be charged with terrorism for the “purposeful exposure and infection of others.”

Really?? I hadn’t heard that news about the Justice Dept announcement. I think that’s absolutely right — if we can charge someone with negligent homicide then purposefully disregarding the risk to others with a deadly virus demands the same weight. Too bad they won’t apply that standard to 45.

My friend posted a single word Karma … to his wall. Then he was attacked by many. Our high school group runs the gamut and far more have a different perspective than mine. I personally think karma was apropos. Especially after he had to respond with the following:
Perhaps a little clarification is in order here…
Karma (car-ma) is a word meaning the result of a person’s actions as well as the actions themselves. It is a term about the cycle of cause and effect. According to the theory of Karma, what happens to a person, happens because they caused it with their actions. … Karma is not about punishment or reward.
I am not at all happy about the turn of events. I’m sad actually. Actions have consequences. What an awful way to learn.

That was exactly my 14-year-old daughter’s response when she heard the news! Cause and effect is a perfect description. Assigning blame isn’t terribly helpful but I can’t help thinking if only he’d learned this lesson when he was young. Men like this tend to have grown up sheltered from any consequences. The rest of us are paying for that now.

Another senator this morning. It is just a mess and all likely preventable.

YES. I just saw a photo that ran this morning (I think) in the NYT — I didn’t realize part of that Barrett White House event was partially indoors. Those people are right on top of each other WITH NO MASKS. It’s mind boggling.

It is a huge mess to say the least.

No surprise from the people who refused to take this seriously

This may sound awful but I’ve had my kids locked down tight since March. They’re teens, it’s been rough – this week has been a real time newsfeed on what happens when you pretend the risk isn’t real. Now I’m just praying they don’t have to learn this lesson through one of their friends getting sick.

The president’s illness, and that of those around him, is not surprising. It’s amazing that he stayed healthy this long. I prayed this morning that Covid would give Trump insight into what this virus can do and that maybe…just maybe…his stance on masks and social distancing will change responsibly for the few months he has left in office.

Even if it buys only that much change at least we might shift the predicted fatality count by the end of the year. I will take ANY bit of help on how he speaks about masks or distancing or the virus itself.

Chump Trump will never change the nature which is his, a full blown narcissistic crazy person.

Worrisome. The charade of the last 24 hours with the questionable timeline and fake “work” photos from the hospital make it clear he’s more concerned with not looking sick than actually keeping more of us from getting sick.

Indeed. I can’t even imagine what we must look like to the rest of the world.

I am trying sooo hard to just wish these people well. You knew this was coming, but when this many people get sick, I fear it’s not going to end well.

Seriously. Odds-wise it doesn’t seem like all of them can just sail out of this with flying colors. Some are bound to be seriously ill, some hospitalized, some become long haulers, and some die. I’m not surprised but I’m still furious it took “their own” getting covid to change things.

As did the Wisconsin Republican Senator. This thing was out of date about 45 minutes after I scheduled it. 😆

Let’s hope POTUS gains some wisdom from this occurrence.

That is literally the only upside I see here. Maybe – just MAYBE – he’ll at least shift his attitude on following CDC guidelines.

I’m so torn. I want to scream that their idiocy infected so many people and it’s spreading across the nation; I’m grateful they look like they’re finally getting the risk.
