Is cereal soup? Why or why not?

Oh my gosh, Melanie, I have no idea why I had such a violent reaction to this question! Voice #1 was all NO NO NO, CEREAL AS SOUP, WHAT KIND OF MADNESS IS THAT before voice #2 chimed in with geez, Laura, settle down, it’s just a question not an attempt to upend society.

So why isn’t cereal soup? No idea. I just vote no.

What are some interesting ways to answer everyday questions like “how’s it going” or “what do you do”?

How’s it going? Par for the course, like a freight train, uphill-both-ways-barefoot-in-the-snow, how’s what going?, or it’s corona times nothing’s going how ’bout you.

What do you do? So glad you asked. I specialize in carving out specks of personal time from a never ending string of minutes that stretch too long yet last no time at all in a day.

What was your favorite toy growing up?

I loved my roller skates.

What do you think about most during the day? What do we do together that makes you feel loved? What do you wish we did more often?

What’s one simple thing society at large could do to improve our world?

Embrace the concept that improving conditions for any faction of society betters us all. Americans in particular have been indoctrinated with a distinctly capitalist, us vs. them mentality and it hinders our ability to see beyond our own narrowly defined community. I worry about your kids having access to food, shelter, education, and healthcare because we’re all part of one country’s fabric and we’re stronger together when we’re made up of strong individuals. Being able to see one another this way would help us be better global citizens – we only have one planet and for better or worse we’re in this together.
