I just can’t think of a time of year more conducive to list making than December. Truth be told I’m a big list fan so they’re pretty much year round tools but for the sake of stream of consciousness…’tis the season for LIST MAKING!
Christmas cards. Do you guys still do holiday cards? I’ve been mostly on point with these except for those off years when it just didn’t happen. Full disclosure: this might be one of those off years. Shocker, I know. Anyway, I finally perfected a Christmas card list system – people were sorted into how do I know you sections with boxes for mailed and/or received because I’m a ninny at remembering details. Like whether I’ve already sent your family a card. Because December’s crazy like that.
Christmas gifts. Is there anyone who doesn’t track this stuff with a list? Because I’d be seriously impressed with someone who manages to buy, wrap, and mail/prep presents for more than just a significant other/spouse without writing stuff down somewhere.
Hosting family dinners. 2020 derailed these but last year I finally (FINALLY!) created a masterful list system for family gatherings – everything from shopping lists to potluck commitments to party day prep schedules which are basically lists on steroids. Excessive? Maybe. But do they make me feel a teeny bit better by creating the illusion of control? Yes they do and I’ll take it. Gladly.
Lists, lists, what else about lists.
Here are a few lists I haven’t made that might come in handy: local speed traps, best ice cream in a thirty mile radius, best new shows on Netflix/Amazon/Hulu, nicknames for troublemaker pups and kitties, great hair products for people letting their color grow out, YouTube tutorials on kittens/stress management/hair cutting techniques for the über amateur, and top ten ways to annoy your teens. I really feel like I’m close to perfecting some things for that last list, though. Gotta aim for the stars, am I right?
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “list.” Make or talk about a list. Enjoy!
I’m enjoying the Christmas card process this year and can relate to needing a list to check off who I’ve sealed up ready for stamps, cause once they go in the mail, I don’t remember who I’ve sent them to. Nice to know I’m not alone with this. The first batch goes out to out of towners, then I’ll work on the locals. After Christmas, I go buy cards for next year, good deals! It’s fun to go up into the attic in November or Dec. 1 and see what I bought.

Cool! It’s like your own early Christmas card surprise every year. It’s the little things. 🙂

Lists are necessary in my life, because my rememberer is broken. Then the problem becomes remembering where I put the lists. Sigh. Alexa is a big help with list making.

She is indeed! I’ve taken to making lists on my phone or kept on my laptop, both things I’ll surely not misplace.

I am sending out Christmas cards this year…as soon as Amazon delivers my cards. I waited a bit too long to order, but better late than never. Now I have to figure out the Christmas card list, which I have hiding somewhere…
You need to work on that ice cream list. It sounds like it could be a fun one. 🙂

Man, I miss going to ice cream shops. Standing at the counter, staring into the glass case at all the yummy tubs of goodness…ahh.

I make lists, but you seem to master them. Don’t give up on the ones you won’t be using in 2020. With any luck, you will need them next year when you haven’t hosted a dinner for 18 months and they’re coming 😏

I imagine the reentry will be a bit rocky but I’m sure I’ll have plenty of company when it comes to readjusting.

I am also a list maker. I haven’t made one for some of your topics, but I like them. 🙂

I haven’t met a situation yet that a list won’t help. 😉

You are right. Now paper lists keep me more on track than the twenty or so I usually have going on in my head.
