I just can’t think of a time of year more conducive to list making than December. Truth be told I’m a big list fan so they’re pretty much year round tools but for the sake of stream of consciousness…’tis the season for LIST MAKING!
Christmas cards. Do you guys still do holiday cards? I’ve been mostly on point with these except for those off years when it just didn’t happen. Full disclosure: this might be one of those off years. Shocker, I know. Anyway, I finally perfected a Christmas card list system – people were sorted into how do I know you sections with boxes for mailed and/or received because I’m a ninny at remembering details. Like whether I’ve already sent your family a card. Because December’s crazy like that.
Christmas gifts. Is there anyone who doesn’t track this stuff with a list? Because I’d be seriously impressed with someone who manages to buy, wrap, and mail/prep presents for more than just a significant other/spouse without writing stuff down somewhere.
Hosting family dinners. 2020 derailed these but last year I finally (FINALLY!) created a masterful list system for family gatherings – everything from shopping lists to potluck commitments to party day prep schedules which are basically lists on steroids. Excessive? Maybe. But do they make me feel a teeny bit better by creating the illusion of control? Yes they do and I’ll take it. Gladly.
Lists, lists, what else about lists.
Here are a few lists I haven’t made that might come in handy: local speed traps, best ice cream in a thirty mile radius, best new shows on Netflix/Amazon/Hulu, nicknames for troublemaker pups and kitties, great hair products for people letting their color grow out, YouTube tutorials on kittens/stress management/hair cutting techniques for the über amateur, and top ten ways to annoy your teens. I really feel like I’m close to perfecting some things for that last list, though. Gotta aim for the stars, am I right?
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “list.” Make or talk about a list. Enjoy!
