When the temperature drops below a certain point I get all kinds of cranky pants. Yesterday was supposed to be a high of thirty-six and not for nothing but thirty-six degrees is already pretty freaking cold so it’s not like I was cool (bwahahaha! see what I did there?) to begin with. And then the temperature started dropping. Bear and I were out and it was BITTER, the kind of thirty-six that feels more like thirty degrees on a mountaintop. Then the dang thing dropped two more degrees and I was not having it.
I mean there was cussing and feet stomping involved. Sometimes I’m not the one acting the grownup and that time often involves subzero weather with a wind chill.
Not like I enjoy temps above eighty either. I get all sweaty (my brain just went to schweatty ballz, anyone else?) and sticky and that’s not a fun time. So I guess I’m basically a gal who’d love living in that sixty to seventy-two degree range. Anyone know a spot like that?
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “above/below.” Use one, use both, use ’em however they inspire you. Bonus points if you use them both. Enjoy!
I prefer to be cold over being hot. I like 50-70 okay, maybe 75 in the shade, but I hate to be hot. When it gets crazy cold, that’s single digits for me, and the wind bites, I thank God I’m not hot and stomping and yelling is good to heat up a body 😉

Yelling is good to heat up a body sounds like an excellent advertising campaign. And I agree, 75 in full sun is not great. 75 in full NC sun might as well be an invitation to heatstroke. 😆

It’s bizarre here. Currently stuck at -3C day and night. Windchill apparently takes it to -7. But next week it’s supposed to go to T-shirt and bbq weather. Then back to freezing again.

Oh no, that sort of temperature swing absolutely won’t do. My sinuses wreck havoc when weather does that kind of thing!!

I do know a spot like that … it’s Lompoc CA. We’d visit my aunt and uncle there back in the 70s. They didn’t even have an A/C in the new house when it was built. Rarely gets above 80 degrees.
In the winter is gets cold but not freezing. I wonder what climate change has done to the place. Need to google it.

I’ve heard California has dealt with quite a bit of climate change. Your aunt and uncle sound like they found the perfect spot for them, though. Makes a girl dream…

You know, I’m originally from Southern California and we moved because I was tired of being HOT all the time, it was like summer all year long. We moved to Central Oregon (Bend) and I had to get an entire new wardrobe for me and the family (expense) that didn’t just consist of shorts and flip-flops! This area has manageable winters, dress in layers. And I think in Central Oregon, our 27 degrees is not bad (unless the sun is gone and there’s any sort of breeze) If there’s no sun/and a breeze 47 can feel like zero to me and I’m miserable. But for the most part, I can actually walk outside in a tshirt and it’s 20 degrees. I couldn’t do a mid-west or East Coat winter. NO THANK YOU. hahahahahah
So, to answer your question, try the Pacific North West. Hahahah. But the valley is dreary, raining, and cloudy most of the year.
Here’s my post on the challenge: https://humblebuthumorous.com/2021/02/13/keeping-warm/

I used to think it was bunk but no, it makes a world of difference whether the sun’s out or if there’s a breeze. I don’t know that I could make it in the Pacific North West…

50 degrees to 70 degrees is all I’d ever need. If they’d alternate from low end to high end, I’d appreciate them completely. Coffee alternated with iced tea. 😉

That sounds like a perfect system to me. 🙂

I used to be under the impression that places like Seattle and Oregon or Washington State, in general, met your requirements. They are mine too, so don’t feel alone. I’d LOVE to have just one wardrobe that fit all occasions instead of stuff I have to put away and then get out again when the weather changes. Alas, I feel that now? We can’t rely on the old standards or myths/rumors about temperature anywhere. It’s changin’. Maybe the Carolinas will experience a temperate wave? You think? 😉 I’ll hope for you!

One can only hope. I complain that we don’t get the pretty snow here but considering I’m not willing to endure the cold temps I don’t have much room to moan about it. It could be worse — there’s lots of folks in the comments with temps in the teens. UGH.

I’m with you Laura – we are at 18 degrees F this morning. Not my bag. Neither is the snow that continues to fall. In the 60s is nice, 70s better, 80s and up too much. Below 50 – not my preference, but tolerable. Below 30 – brrr. I only want perfection.

Is perfection too much to ask?? I THINK NOT! 😆😆

You will not find that kind of weather in Wisconsin, unless you come in early June and September. We’ve had highs in the single digits for over a week, with below zero wind chills. Even for a home-grown citizen, that’s too cold for too long, but I’m glad that I don’t have to go out to work or to walk a dog. A trip to the dumpster and out for grocery pick-up is enough for me.

No, no, absolutely not. HIGHS in the single digits?? I’d be checking into moving plans. 😆

I think I’ve seen that temp once in my life. I seem to recall hiding in my house under several blankets while wearing multiple layers. That WAS cold.

San Diago has the range you are looking for, Laura. It’s the only place I know. We have been 30 degrees for two days and are forecasted to go to 7 degrees on Sunday. The coldest temps in Austin ever. Stay warm

SEVEN?!? That should be illegal in Texas or at least you should get hazard pay. Do you even own clothing appropriate for those temps??
We visited San Diego once for my brother’s change of command and you’re right, the weather was phenomenal. 🙂

We actually have clothes leftover from trips to Lake Tahoe. 😁

60 – 72 is a wonderful range. When do we get that? Right now, we’re dealing with 10 – 32. It seems that in a few months we’re be dealing with 76 – 96. I know, I know, it just seems that way, but…
Stay cool, Laura.

Working on it, Dan. 10-32 sounds like a nightmare. People here cannot tolerate scary low temps, they’ve been known to delay school openings if the AM wind chill was in the teens/single digits so bus stop kids wouldn’t get sick. (Back in the school bus days, that is.)

It’s funny because 60s is kind of my compromise. I can feel chilly in the 60s but since it’s not COLD cold I can make it work. Weird how I look for middle ground even in my fantasy…

Oh my word, 60 t0 72 is cold so I understand how you must not enjoy temps below that! Sorry, I don’t know a spot with temps hovering constantly at mild. Personally, I am happy with a Mediterranean climate – warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. No snow, ice or sleet. Sometimes it gets to 40 degrees C but not for long and it seldom goes below 12 degrees C except perhaps between 10 pm and 10 am when it can be as low as 4 degrees C.

We’ve visited Hawaii and it’s the closest thing to heaven I’ve found. I’m sure that has something to do with the ocean and island culture but it’s basically a non-humid 70-75 degrees there every single day and PERFECT. Now that’s where I’d love to live. 🙂
