Do you feel you ask enough questions or do you settle for what you know?
I’m a big fan of questions – the more, the better, I always say. I’d much rather ask about what I need to know than feel anxiety because I’m guessing, but when I’m über stressed I seriously fall down on the job. You know those times when you’re responsible for somebody else so you’re supposed to be taking in all the info so you know what to do? Yeah, well, sometimes I’m kinda freaked out in those moments so I’m not great at absorbing info or realizing I have no idea what that word meant so I should probably ask for clarification. Really drives home the “there are no stupid questions” perspective.
When did you fail to speak up when you feel you should have?
I spent a lot of my twenties and thirties sitting quietly when I should have spoken up. No specific instance I can name, just a collection of uncomfortable moments that left me feeling like I should have said something. The off color joke told in the break room or sexist comment about what someone was wearing – I wish I’d spoken up more back then.
When was the last time you felt lucky?
I hit the brakes hard to stop for a light. It was one of those that changed at the witching hour moment – soon enough to stop, late enough to call it yellow if you kept on going – but I opted to stop. Unfortunately the driver behind me must have been looking down or at their phone or something because I saw their head snap up in the rearview as they slammed on their brakes and shimmied a little to the right. I was lucky not to get rear ended that day.
What is a boulder?
Very large rocks often seen jutting out from mountain ranges as we drive between them muttering PLEASE don’t crash down on me PLEASE don’t crash down on me. Alternatively, a very large rock seen lying on the side of the highway as we mutter Thank you for not crashing down on me!
Feel free to share your gratitude with everyone!
I’m grateful we didn’t lose power in last week’s ice storm because worrying about losing food in our fridge/freezer stresses me out.

Glad you didn’t get smashed!
This last year, for all the …. that it’s been, has taught me HOW to speak up about things that I used to be uncomfortable with, so yay growth!
I am literally paid to ask questions, which pleases me 😀

Thanks, Dan. That would have made for an unpleasant surprise when all I wanted was to go pick up some groceries…

Before I moved norther in this state, where I lived the road to the “big” town where we shopped was lined with boulder-laden hills, which boulders did sometimes roll down into the roadway, always creating havoc. Your thoughts mimic my thoughts as I drove to town back then. Or did my thoughts mimic your thoughts?

Either way, those boulders were STRESSFUL, right? Funny too because it’s not like I was ever in a rockslide but it sure did feel imminent…

Thank you Laura for Sharing Your World! I’ve had those moments of sheer terror, driving through a canyon where evidence of rock slides is everywhere!
Scary stuff!! You were lucky not to be rear-ended, and YAY!! for it! Whiplash and so forth is no joke! I’m very glad you didn’t lose any power too, like so many others who’ve had that ice storm stuff (in weird locations where they don’t usually even see snow) have! Have a wonderful week!

Thanks, Melanie. I used to think whiplash was one of those just-a-description things, a way to sum up the accident, right up until I was in one and got whiplash and then man, THAT made it crystal clear. I am ever grateful to avoid that sort of thing now.

Well done. Too many don’t ask enough questions, especially why questions?

Agreed. I hated how many students were afraid to ask questions because they’d look stupid or other kids glared at them for dragging out the lesson. If only we’d teach them that curiosity is just as important as knowing the answer.

I remember at school not being able to get my head round why a Boulder was not spelt as bolder.

Seriously. The English language is a mess of confusion sometimes.
