The ice is coming, the ice is coming, and North Carolina is never prepared.
I’ve been watching Texas deal with a complete disintegration of any structured response to catastrophic weather and it’s heartbreaking. People without power for days on end. Water pipes bursting, food supplies dwindling, people stranded in their homes with nobody coming to help. The winter blast is responsible for at least twenty-four deaths so far this week and without a comprehensive plan soon there will surely be more.
The freak out level is pretty high here in North Carolina but I can’t imagine what people in Texas are living through right now. Stay warm, stay safe. We’re hoping the weather breaks for you and emergency services kick in as soon as possible.
Yet we will deny climate change until we are red in our faces. Or frozen in our beds. I wish you warmth and safety through the North Carolina weather storm.

Thank you, Carol, we came through safely. Lots of iced over trees but I just stayed off the roads and hunkered down. Better safe than sorry, you know.

We Texans were not prepared for this storm. Lows in the single digits put a world of hurt on the power supply. We have been 120 hours of below-freezing temps. Right now the power has been on since 8:00 PM last night. Feels good. Ice on the roads till make travel impossible. I hope you stay warm.

That sounds like an awful lot to handle for anyone. That many days of below freezing temps would be enough to drive me to bury myself under a mountain of blankets! I hope your power stays put and you all stay safe.

So do I! But all in all we just hunkered down and stayed bundled up inside. Thank goodness we don’t have to be out in it if we don’t want to.

You’re right, it’s been awful here in TX. Where we are isn’t as bad as some, but we’ve had single digit temps, and several days of snow. It’s snowing again right now. Our water pipe in the kitchen froze up, but only lasted a couple of days. We haven’t lost power, but lots have temporarily in the city. Tx is just never prepared for winter like this. Wishing y’all warmth and safety in the days to come. 🙂

Thank you! I hope this weather gets out of your neighborhood ASAP — this is crazy stuff for Texas to handle. Here’s hoping your good luck with power holds up!

Laura, I may have asked this before, but where are you in NC? I am in Charlotte. Keith

Aha! We’re in the Burlington/Greensboro area so not too far from you. My daughter and I saw the women’s national soccer team play a Victory Tour game in Charlotte a couple of years ago. 🙂

Laura, you are not far away at all. That area has changed so much with new roads, it confused my old GPS. I have several friends and had several clients before I retired. I have written a couple of times about the Civil Rights museum surrounding the old Woolsworth counter. Keith

We’re lucky here. Power stayed on AND school got cancelled — gotta love a snow day in remote learning times.
