This atrocious platform has hijacked my site. HIJACKED IT, I SAY. I ranted a bit last month about being forced into using the freaking block editor (y’all caught the cloud of four letter words floating above that, right?). Then Thursday night I hit panic mode because my website would let me name a post but not type the body of a post and what good is that?
It was frozen all day yesterday and I was starting to write this post on my phone’s app when I had a eureka moment: WHAT IF it was only the classic editor that was frozen? WHAT IF writing a post on the block editor would work just fine? WHAT IF WORDPRESS HIJACKED MY DAMN PLATFORM AGAIN?
I guess there’s no way you could tell just by reading this but yeah, they did. These frockers (yes, a made up word but one that conveniently both meets the prompt needs and describes my WordPress feelings at the moment) stole my ability to write on the system I prefer by simply locking it down. Now technically they’re not demanding payment to release it so I guess this isn’t ransomware or piracy or whatever. Then again I do pay for a WordPress plan and for my domain name so isn’t it?
LET ME WRITE IN THE CLASSIC EDITOR, DAMMIT, I’M NOT HURTING ANYTHING. Lawd.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “roc.” Find a word with “roc” in it or use it as a word all by itself. Enjoy!
Frockers. I like your made up word.

Try this again. Open your WP, click on your face (or whatever image you use) in the circle at the top right in the black bar. Right beside the bell.
Once you have clicked there, it will bring you to your profile. On the left side, choose account settings.
Scroll down until you get to Interface settings and there is a slide bar under Dashboard Settings. Click on that, go below the color options and save.
Then, you will have the same admin page as before. Just like the last time when they pulled this nonsense! You can then click on “all posts” and then add new and choose classic.

Whoa boy, even this didn’t put things right. That’s a bad sign right there…

Yes it is. Say some nice words over Classic Editor. ☹️

The Block Editor is not my best friend, but I am getting used to it. WordPress is just reminding us that change is the only constant, and is trying to keep our brains agile. Uh huh.

Maybe go self-hosted? They haven’t gotten around to forcing the bliock editor there…

Now there’s something I haven’t looked into at all. When you self-host do you just lose everything you’ve published on the WP platform? Is there any way to take it with you, so to speak?

Here’s a page that will help:

Essentially you export from WordPress.com and import to WordPress.org.

I’m with you again on this. Was I really causing that many disruptions to the space time continuum by using the Classic Editor.

No. NO YOU WERE NOT. They are just cranky pants overlords who don’t want the rest of us to be happy.

I feel your pain. I eventually gave in and started using the block editor. I hate it and just can’t get used to it! 😭😭

Laura, I am still without access. I did use the Classic editor on my phone to upload a post that I typed in Word on my computer and emailed myself. Keith
