What activity instantly calms you?
Petting one of the dogs. Seeing their steady breathing and feeling their soft hair quells anxiety and centers me.
What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve done lately?
I took the weekend off from writing. There was some stuff going on and for once I didn’t put my head down and try to push through, I just acknowledged I needed the break and stepped back. It helped.
If people receive a purple heart for bravery, what would other color hearts represent? (Example yellow heart = cowardice
Blue = loyalty. Yellow = compassion. Red = passion. Orange = inspiration. Green = nurturing.
What is the bravest thing you’ve ever done or witnessed someone else do?
I’m a survivor who reported my rape to the police. A year later I stood up in front of my sorority and shared my story.
How do you show gratitude to the people you respect?
For me showing gratitude means meeting someone where they are. If they feel appreciation through words I let them know how much I love having them in my life. If they feel through actions I’ll do things like making a meal or putting gas in their car. If I really want to show gratitude then I choose ways they’ll feel it.

You’re incredibly brave. Sharing might give others the courage to do the stand up and do the same.
My dogs are calming to me too. They work as well as blood pressure meds. Natural heelers who are healers.

Thank you. And “Natural heelers who are healers” is an excellent description for these fur babies.

I think it’s pretty cool to spontaneously not do something. Seriously, a lot of people could learn from that.

I’m not good at it and it was definitely out of character. But I felt so much better after just allowing myself space that I’m sure I’ll do it more often. 🙂

Thank you for Sharing Your World Laura! It is difficult for a rape victim to speak out and good for you for doing so! There can be so much stigma attached, and in my day the victim was belittled and called ugly names for allowing herself to be attacked! (as if! ) They would imply the woman actually asked for it. Geezus. You are brave, on so many levels! You show in your actions in your current life too! I think taking a break away from electronic ‘life’ is prudent and a wise thing to do now and then. We get a reminder of what’s really important that way, don’t we? Great heart colors! Have a wonderful and peaceful week!

Thanks, Melanie. I wish I could say things had changed but there’s still a lot of victim blaming but with more subtle tones. Still hurts. And I had a lot of fun with the colors question!

Laura, I am so sorry you had to go through the experience that made you so brave. But, you stood up and were counted. That says a lot. Keith
