1. Octopus. Sometimes they’ll sell some at the seafood counter, their little suckers pressed up against the plastic wrap holding them in the package. Absolutely not.
2. The McRib at McDonald’s. I can get down with their fries all day long but the McRib looks like some sort of processed meat travesty on a bun.
3. Pickled pigs feet. Did you know you can buy these in a giant jar? Have you seen them??
4. Turducken. A friend told me about these once — it’s a chicken stuffed into a duck stuffed into a turkey — and since I’m American I didn’t even bat an eye. But seeing a photo of the thing? Gotta say I’m a little thrown.
5. Doughnut burgers. Just the thought of biting into a juicy burger stacked between two glazed doughnuts is enough to make me gag just a little. Imagining burger juices soaking into said doughnut…well, that’s just the nail in the coffin for me.
6. Deep fried butter. Yes, this is really a thing. And yes, it sounds like a heart attack on a plate. It also sounds kind of gross.
7. Chicken fried steak. Sometimes served on a bun, sometimes covered in gravy — I live in the south so this is on a whole lot of menus here but I gotta say I feel no need to try a battered and fried piece of meat.
8. Duck. In any form. I know, I know, plenty of folks talk about their favorite duck dish “you’d love it if you try it” but I can’t stop picturing them bopping along behind their mama ducks on the pond.
9. Ditto for lamb. Not the water, obviously, but the baby animal part is a tough hurdle for me.
10. Cauliflower as a substitute for anything. Cauliflower crust, cauliflower rice, cauliflower tacos, cauliflower mashed potatoes, cauliflower hummus…if the food’s so bad for me it needs a vegetable to tag in then I’ll just skip it altogether, thank you very much.
Well, chicken fried steak and cream gravy is a staple around here. We make it at home and most times I’ll get it at a restaurant, too. I get hooked on one dish at those places and just can’t bring myself to try anything new. I’ve had duck a couple of times. Rather have chicken. My husband tried octopus when in Korea or Japan or somewhere. He liked it. UGH! I don’t much like any seafood. Cauliflower is good raw like in a salad. 🙂

Salad dressing might help. Maybe. It’s been a long time since I tried it so I can’t quite remember if they have a taste or just a crunch. I’ve never tried making chicken fried steak — not sure I even could doing gluten free, and I’m kind of supposed to avoid red meat too so 🤷🏻♀️.

No octopus for me either – please and thank you. I avoid deep fried because, you know – too much of that grease stuff. But wait – are fish and chips deep fried? Oh my. Duck? Nope. Same with goose. And no turducken because – duck. I’ll take my rice real – it is a plant food after all. And my pizza crust. And my pie crust. And cauliflower belongs not on my menu very often. Again, please and thank you. I am all for whole food plant based, but some plants don’t need to be included.

I’m sitting here trying to remember the last time I even bought cauliflower and it’s been YEARS. I wouldn’t even know where to find it in the produce section! 😆

I don’t eat deep fried foods. They are hard to digest and make me nauseated!

I used to be able to eat them (and love them, sadly) but now they totally upset my stomach too. Not worth the icky feeling!

i’m with you on most of this for sure

I can’t even feel bad about it. Other folks can support those industries, I’m sure I eat stuff they pass up too. 😉

I’ve tried southern fried chicken stake and loved it. Same goes for cauliflower in all forms. But for the rest of the list; No thanks

Oh! You’re the first person who’s told me they like the cauliflower stuff. I wondered why those recipes were taking off!

Haha! I was on keto for two years. Cauli rice was the alternative to rice and we used to have cauli-pizza.

Thank you for noping out on the Octopus. They are fascinating highly-intelligent creature that deserve more than ending up with their little suckers pressed up against the plastic wrap holding them in the package. Best, Babsje

Oh, that makes it even sadder! I did not know that about octopus. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with all of these. I had duck once in China. No thanks. I love cauliflower and foolishly thought the items made from it would be good, YUCK just YUCK

My mom used to put it on the veggie with dip platter and it was…well, meh, even dunked in ranch. I even chose broccoli over that! 😆

I like squid (calamari), but other than that, I’m with you all the way.
