Does anyone else go on hunting expeditions for expired products in their fridge? Nah, probably not, probably you guys are super organized and use the stuff up before that stamped date of doom. I used to be organized like that too.
Well, I’m still kinda organized like that. What usually goes wrong now is I get derailed from cooking for one reason or another so those ingredients get shifted to a few days later and one thing leads to another and before you know it there’s three pints of cream in the garage fridge, two from July and one from early September.
July?! Seriously??? I can’t explain it, man.
I’m inspired by those TikTok cooking videos that show glimpses of highly organized refrigerators. I can only aspire to gleaming shelves filled with helpful things, in a logical order, that get used before they turn brown or slimy. You know, like grownups do…
This week’s prompt is “inspire/aspire/expire.” Use them in any form you like. Use one, use two or use them all if you want. If you use two, you get bonus points! If you use all three, Cheryl will put your next drink on David’s tab. Enjoy!
😀 Hehehe, I know exactly what it feels like to find something expired in the fridge, that I had planned on using/cooking/making a while ago.
Oh, well…
Take care and have a very HAPPY week!
Claudia 🙂

Sometimes grownups are busy with other things besides organizing a frig. I have been known to have a jar of olives in my frig door for a year, because David says olives “never go bad.” The compost bin doesn’t mind a bit.

There are a number of miracle items that folks think “never go bad” but then you unscrew the lid and phew! Science disagrees. 😂

Now that we’re using curbside, I’ve had a few items expired when we got them. Uh nope. I also know of some who ignore expiration dates or use them as suggestions.

The expired items coming home in my back sends me off the edge! Seriously? Would you pay your own money for that?? Sheesh.

I tend to buy too many greens and fresh veggies – more than I can eat before they turn wet and slimy or brown. I should have learned by now, but it seems to be a repetitive habit. Hopefully, I’ll get to that ripe avocado and the bunch of romaine today.

Lettuce seems to be my downfall lately. I’ll buy some fully intending to include salads with a few meals but then it’s two weeks later and it’s all gross and leaky. 🤢 Good luck with your avocado — they’re delicious but persnickety about the timing. 😉

Oh God, we must be all the same. My husband is a huge problem in this. He’ll always open a new jar/bottle/packet of food, instead of emptying the old one first! He’s not as bad as he used to be though….because he knows it gets him in trouble.

This!! Another big pet peeve is when someone pulls the backup bottle/jar of ketchup or BBQ sauce or salad dressing to put in the fridge BUT DOESN’T ADD IT TO THE SHOPPING LIST TO REPLACE. Am I supposed to have some kind of shopping radar for this?? 😆

I hate that too….😒

The bonus points are yours, and Cheryl will mix/open/pour your request.
As for expired products, mine always seem to be things on the edge. Thursday, I went out for takeout. I told my wife “I’m not getting fries, I’m going to finish the potato salad.” She shook her head no.

Ooh, an item with mayo. You like to live on the edge, Dan. 😆 And I think I’ll take a margarita on the rocks, thank you! 😂

That margarita is coming right up. The potato salad wasn’t that old.

Fridge is a mysterious place and things hide in there till they expire!

They do! It’s impossible for me to understand how a jar of something will just magically appear behind the leftovers.

Sadly, I need to hunt for expired goods in my pantry.

Oh no, the pantry…that’s a project I just haven’t been able to make myself tackle in a couple of years. 😐
