Are you easily frightened or startled?
This is a big old YES. I’ve jumped out of my shoes just turning a corner and bumping into the hubby. Irrational but I’ve learned to live with it.
(Purely whimsical supposition. Suspend disbelief for a bit.) If you were a ghost, what location do you think you would haunt? Is it the same or different from the location you’d want to haunt?
Knowing my luck I’d get stuck haunting one of those dingy gas station bathrooms. Ugh. It’d be far lovelier to haunt a beach — finally a chance to watch the ocean without melting in the heat or getting sand stuck in unmentionable places.
What do you see in your mind’s eye when you close your eyes? (I know somebody will answer ‘the inside of my eyelids”, so I took the temptation away by answering that first! 😜 Feel free to use that answer if you like though, or pass. It’s ALL good!)
I feel dreadfully boring but have to say I usually see what I was looking at just before closing my eyes, kind of like there’s a pause in my “gone dark” relay. If we’re talking a more existential mind’s eye then that’s nature — blue skies, bright green trees, sometimes the lake.
If a Semi (Big Rig in Americanese) (lorry or trolley over the pond) were about to smash into a crowd, and you could divert the vehicle’s course to hit only one person, would you? How would you decide who would become the victim?
Not the trolley problem! Have any of you watched The Good Place? I’d never heard of this before that show and now I can’t get their graphic yet hysterical depiction out of my head. Anyway…I can’t see how anyone would answer no to the first question so I guess that means yes, I’d divert it. That second question is more problematic. Maybe if it was someone with a terminal illness so advanced they were in their last hours?
Please feel free to share what makes you feel warm and cozy when the wind blows cold? Alternatively (for those on the other side of the world), what makes you feel relaxed and comfortable when the thermometer starts rising?
My winter jacket with thinsulate material, a warm hat that covers my ears, and Uggs. Plus a good blanket to wrap around myself.

Normally I would say yes to haunting beaches. Some beaches. Having stood on the beach at Whitby in December, being jet blasted with sand, freezing rain and the sea with ice cubes….maybe not a Yorkshire Beach.

Oh my no…North Carolina beaches are lovely temperate places (as long as you’re not there in June/July/August when they’re torturous sweat boxes).

Thank you Laura for Sharing Your World! A beach would be a great place to ‘haunt’, but how would anyone know a ghost was there? Would you kick sand on the really skinny guys (if they do that any longer, it is rather mean), or upset someone’s beach BBQ? LOL. You could have a lot of fun with that, and the scenery is much better than a rest stop toilet. That, my friend, would be my personal version of hell. My social phobia wouldn’t quit! 😯 I was like you are with the startle thing, people used to joke about it. My family thought it was hilarious to sneak up on me. Didn’t find it so funny after I punched one of my brothers in the eye for doing it though. I hope you stay nice and toasty, but how cold does the South really get? It’s probably 40 outside here right now, and it’s snowing like heck in the mountains! Brrrrrrrrrrrrr! Have a wonderful week!

Thanks, Melanie. I’ve warned my people that I’ll do my best but can’t be responsible for a fight or flight instinct. We’re just lucky no one’s been punched yet. Our area rarely gets all that cold — I’d say 40s is our typical winter weather. 30s is cold snap, gee-do-you-think-it’ll-snow weather (maybe two or three times a winter). 20s/teens they delay school so kids aren’t waiting outside for buses in the frigid cold. New Englanders must think we’re ridiculous. 😉

Are you sure ghosts don’t have unmentionable places.?

Me too! I had a boss once who worried I was being abused — she was so kind. And it was impossible to explain I just naturally jump out of my own skin.
