Di (11-2-2021) What really turns your stomach? (politicians aside)
Watching someone vomit, followed closely by the overwhelming smell of said vomit.
Jim and Fandango (12-1-2021) Recently in a FPQ challenge, a question was asked about fish. That ‘sparked’ a further train of thought by me about (Jim and Fandango’s discussion) “Whether or not recycling is helpful OR if it’s really far too late for anything of that sort to make a difference?
I have to believe any effort makes a worthwhile difference, no matter how small. Why wouldn’t you want to do any little thing that could make things better?
What would YOU do with the immense amount of ‘garbage’ in the world, if there weren’t dumps or barges (Sorry New York/New Jersey) where it was taken to be processed? (My question thought up from Jim and Fandango’s.)
If there were no place to process it then the most equitable solution would be for each community to be responsible for handling/storing/recycling their own waste. I imagine some folks might be a little more motivated to decrease their garbage if they had to look at it for decades to come.
Evil Squirrel posed the following (12-5-2021) What’s the oddest container you’ve ever gotten a gift in?
Is it extraordinarily boring to say I’ve never gotten a gift in a particularly odd container? I did see a guy open a gift once that was at the center of an enormous ball of duct tape.
Do people behave differently during Christmas (insert your own holiday or festive season)?
Do they try to be better?
Do you donate something (money, clothes…) to charities?
Do you give something to homeless people?
I think the majority of us try to be better. It might be as simple as thinking about others more often or maybe pulling out a few dollars for those Salvation Army bell ringers. Despite good intentions, though, I’m afraid the stress of the holiday season sometimes gets the best of us.
This is an allegedly joyful time of year. How do you, personally, FEEL?
Honestly? Over the years I’ve spent a lot of time feeling stressed at the holidays. See also anxious, tired, overwhelmed, and constantly certain I’ve forgotten something that will destroy all holiday joy. This year I’m working on having reasonable expectations and being very purposeful about what I take on. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Thank you Laura for Sharing Your World! I suspect all parents feel stressed out at this time of year – it seems really frenetic. I’m sure the fur ‘kids’ are very interested in all that’s going on too, and what did you do about your tree and your ‘amazing flying cat’ situation? Seven is a rascal! 🐱👓 Your solution to the garbage problem is a good idea, if only someone with the actual power to change things would just do it! They ought to give you credit and all! Have a great week!

Full disclosure: this was not my solution and I’m absolutely flabbergasted that it’s working. The hubby weighed down the stand legs with sandbags! I thought that tree would last a day, maybe two, but darned if I didn’t look over from the kitchen to see Seven launch himself out of the middle of the tree and it shimmied then settled. 😳😏

If you’re old enough to remember Spencer Gifts, they had a canning machine in the store in our mall. One year, I canned the gifts I bought my mom, dad and brother. It made for some fun language on Christmas morning, as the cans were too big for our electric can opener and they had to be opened by hand.

I loved Spencers! Never saw a canning machine, though, that’s brilliant.
