Some folks decorate a Christmas tree while sipping hot chocolate and listening to Christmas carols. That’s one way to go, I suppose. Think I tried it one year and for lack of a better phrase it didn’t take. I’ve found movies to be more my thing.
One year I watched Miracle on 34th Street. The newer version. I won’t really go to battle over this. I’ve seen the older version and liked it fine, I just prefer the newer one. C’est la vie.
One year it was The Santa Clause. Pretty sure I watched the second one that day, too. I love the original and now I’m thinking I’ll load it up before the weekend’s out.
The last few years, though, my movie choices have been lighthearted and decidedly not of the Christmas genre.
This year? How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Notting Hill, and Crazy Rich Asians. Very funny, very easy, and movies I know by heart so I didn’t need to be looking at the screen to enjoy it.
Past years’ tree decorating entertainment has included Gilmore Girls, The Good Place, Grey’s Anatomy, Runaway Bride, The Proposal, 27 Dresses, Sweet Home Alabama, Miss Congeniality, Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You, and While You Were Sleeping.
Seeing a trend? Decorating the tree is not the time for a challenging period piece or that Emmy contender you’ve been meaning to process. In our house the only way out is through and for home decoration that involves mindless fun in the background.
‘Tis the season.
For me, silence is golden most of the time. So I decorate the tree in silence. In my younger years I went all out for decorating the house. Now, the tree is lucky it gets decorated.
