When are we taught we’re not enough?
Look at any kid and they’re running wild, balls to the wall, hair on fire. They’re storming the castle, convinced they’ll slay the dragon and rescue the princess by dinnertime. They know they’re awesome.
I think we could use a little more of that these days.

I think not being good enough is something people think of at very early age, sometimes even before their teen years and I would blame a lot of it on the idealism we set upon ourselves. What is a boy supposed to be, what is a girl supposed to be? I ask, why are we supposed to be something if we don’t want to?

Those are all messages we take in from a very early age. We learn quickly what we’re supposed to be, and we were corrected just as quickly if we stepped out of line. I’d like to think we’re doing better with the next generation…at least I hope we are…

As a woman I blame those fashion magazines we used to read when were preteens and teenagers. It was through those pages that I learned I wasn’t good enough. They started me down the path of doubting myself– over and over again.
