We’re entering the heavy travel period as a bazillion people prepare to circle up with family for Thanksgiving. In your typical year you’ve got people debating the value behind celebrating a Pilgrims and Native Americans unity myth but this is 2024. It’s no typical year.
Advice ranges from just stick to safe topics, talk about your freaking dog for hours if need be, to go scorched earth and leave it all behind. Many of us are creeping our way into family gatherings where not everyone feels the same about our recent presidential election. Creativity called for “dumpster fire” centerpieces but I managed to tamp down that instinct. Probably.
Check on your people. It’s rough out here.
It’s like that here with Brexit. So much division. It’s splitting families and friendships.

As do I. Holidays can be fraught for so many reasons – here’s hoping families find a way to enjoy their time.

I’m spending the week with my son, whose opinions differ somewhat from mine – we do have areas on which we agree, however, so I think we’ll manage. We’re aware of when it’s time to change topics. Wishing the best for everyone.

It can be a tricky dance. Glad that you & your son have a common space to share. Enjoy your time together!

Very true for this week…I have a full collection of ‘dumpster fire’ pieces, which will make great centerpieces 🙂
