I swear, my brain forgot this one until it popped up on my calendar. (See Saturday’s post for my ode to the 12 month organizational tool.) It turns out my blog is ten years old today.

Cue the balloons and fireworks.

Just kidding, I hate fireworks and balloons endanger the birds so I guess cue the YAYs and WHOOP WHOOPs.

This is already more capitals than I typically allow on a post but we’ll let it fly since it’s a special occasion.

Anyway, way back in 2015 (yes, I’m snorting at the idea of 2015 as “way back”) I hit publish on my very first post. It’s as earnest as one would think, filled with waxing poetic (or poetic waxing?) about the transcendental joy of writing and such.

Just kidding, when have you ever known me to wax poetic about anything? But it does describe how the idea of starting a blog kicked me in the teeth until I accepted my fate. So same I guess.

I know the last couple of years(ish) have been rocky. I stepped back for a long stretches and lost touch with a lot of readers. Some bloggers I follow have shuttered their own sites as they move on to other adventures; others have cut back on the frequency of their posts. In a stark reminder that we are all human with very real lives we lost one to suicide.

But still I persevere. Ten years, for better or worse, isn’t too shabby. Onward and upward with that ever present side of snark.
