I’m seeing this doctor. His specialties are in sports medicine and family medicine but he’s one of those superheroes in a white coat kind of people. The kind I trust with everything from actual injuries to that weird pain I just can’t get rid of with my Google Dr.™ skill set. Currently he does my adjustments to help with back pain because 53 is an absolute dream, let me tell ya.

Since he’s a holistic doctor every single time he comes in the room he’ll sit down, look me dead in the eye, and ask “so how are you?” Except it’s not one of those “list your symptoms please” questions, he’s actually asking. I’ve dropped everything from “I’m really stressed about the holidays” to “Senior year college search is about to take me out” and he takes it all in. This last visit I said “I’m just feeling so [insert random explosion gestures near my heart]. Everything is SO MUCH right now but like, what are you gonna do, right?” And he said, “Vote” which is one more reason I love this guy.

He always asks what am I doing for myself which often elicits a ladylike snort so we talk about how important it is to take care of me. This last visit he found my weak spot. He asked the question, I kind of blanked out, and he said doing something fun was my homework. Just for good measure he wrote “Remember to do your homework” on my visit notes.

So like any good teacher in a past life I’m working on the assignment. Having lunch with my sister today is my biggest fun thing but I thought maybe I’d revisit the blog. Turns out it’s a little like visiting a long lost friend.
