When you go on vacation, do you like to sample the local cuisine, check out the sights, or laze on the beach?

I feel like I’m a combination of all three. We went on a trip to Italy once that was nonstop sightseeing and I was exhausted when we got home so now I like to build in a fair amount of relaxing. I do love enjoying local food though, and checking out the sights is worthwhile. If I got all technical about it I’d say I’m a balance of 20/20/60 for these factors.

Have you ever been away on a vacation with friends rather than family?

Once or twice. Most of our vacations have either been our nuclear family or with one of our extended families.

Would you prefer a cruise or coach tour holiday?

No to the cruise ships, absolutely not. Maybe someday I’ll be willing to roll the dice on seasickness again but it’s hard to imagine. Ironically, I hate a bus too but those coach ones look pretty comfortable. Plus there’s no waves to bob up and down on so it’s coach tour for the win.

Self catering, or full board where all meals are included/provided?

Full board (typically called all-inclusive where we’ve stayed) has been the lowest stress vacations for us. You unpack your bags, lock your wallet in the safe, and don’t have to worry about having it on you for the rest of the trip. I can see how self catering makes more sense if you spend a lot of time exploring the area you’re in, though.

Gratitude:

BrightSide and I are celebrating thirty years of marriage today. Three decades is wild, man. We’ve been married for longer than half my lifetime and that’s just crazy cakes. My deepest gratitude isn’t that we’ve been married for thirty years. It’s that I found someone who has loved me through all of my stages and who allows me to love him through his. We’re pretty lucky.
