“Heroism is endurance for one moment more.”
– George F. Kennan
It’s been a tough couple of months now. We’ve been fighting duplicitous claims of election fraud since November and pandemic stress continues to multiply. We’re in the final stretch to the inauguration, though, and while covid cases might be soaring we’re shifting to the vaccination stage. It’s the time for heroism.
It is that time right now.

Laura, here is one, Republican Senator Ben Sasse who just wrote the Republican Party has become a party of conspiracy theory and talk show hosts. What I find humorous is the QANON folks eat up BS conspiracies, but ignore the real ones right under the nose. The NRA declared bankruptcy yesterday. Why? Because its leaders were using funds for their own benefit. These leaders conspired to commit malfeasance. This is not fake news, this is real malfeasance.
And, the outgoing president’s voter fraud claims were both predicted and predictable, by even non-expert bloggers like me. The outgoing president planned the voter fraud claims for months by defaming the mail-in process, hobbling the post office, getting some legislators to tighten mail-in requirements, hiring 1,000 attorneys and telling his voters to vote in person as those votes are counted first. The surprise has been how many people believed his BS because of the lack of greater push back in the Republican Party and the QANON folks filling the gaps with voter fraud fodder. Unfortunately, those who are pushing back now are still outgunned in the Trump Party who believe the outgoing president’s petulant BS.
Heroes are indeed required, but we need more people to ask why questions or ask where people got that information, as it does not seem to be true. It takes twenty seconds of courage to do so.

I was talking with my husband about this last night. He was commenting on how frustrating it is to speak with MAGAs who spout this nonsense bc if you ask them to source it they link back to FOX news/OAN/Trump, & if you explain why the theory is wrong they pivot to another conspiracy theory. I’m struggling to see how we’ll ever get those people back to critical thinking. And we’ll need the Republican Party to make a choice between staying all in with Trump or taking their party back.

Laura, our blogging friend Scottie was asking a variation of the same question relating it to evangelicals and the bible. It is actually not too dissimilar as Trumpism is a religion or cult. The best bet is to ask them questions and listen to their response. Only then, can we ask follow-up questions. This is the approach African-American Daryl Davis used to with KKK members to get them to quit. He collected over 200 KKK robes in the process.
A question that comes to mind is “do you truly believe that or are you just telling me what you heard?” Davis noted that his follow-up questions hinged on the first set of answers. He was able to show how ludicrous some of the beliefs of the KKK member were. Keith
