This week’s Monday morning rundown is suspended due to the five hours I spent snuggling, medicating, soothing, and protecting my doggo with the bad heart last night. Much of the dog world on Twitter agreed.

Ugh. I don’t understand why explosions make us feel like a country. Fireworks affect so many creatures AND people. It’s illegal where I live and sadly no one seems to care. Makes me sad. I keep the TV loud and that helps. PLUS, they at least tend to stop around 10pm. I’m very grateful for early-bird rule breakers. Lol. I get they are pretty. I do. But, there has to be a way to do them without scaring everyone to death. Right?

This insistence on blowing stuff up to “celebrate” boggles the mind. If someone finds a way to get everyone on board with a non-traumatizing celebration they’ll have my full throated support.

This is so sad. They are a nightmare.

Absolutely. The neighborhood ones drive me crazy — if you love fireworks that much just drive to a show and watch them! Why anyone feels this incessant need to light up stuff from the backyard is beyond me.

Fireworks are banned here because of the fire hazard, but I did hear a few when I went out after dark last night. I couldn’t hear them inside at all, so Shasta was not bothered. Thankfully.

Oh thank goodness! So many areas really shouldn’t be shooting them off at all this year — I’m glad most everyone around you listened.

We are so glad to be away from the Texas coast. There fireworks are a three-day event. We also have a heavily insulated house so the sounds are muted. A little Amazon Music for dogs and we made it through.

My daughter found a soundtrack on YouTube called Calming Music For Dogs. You can bet I was on Spotify last night searching for similar playlists and saving them to my library for easy access!

It does work.

my cats were terrified and it went on pretty late

I’m so sorry! We’re lucky, both cats seem fine about it. Not sure how I’d handle three fur babies freaking out for hours.

I’m really fortunate that Yappy doesn’t freak out horribly. He usually can sleep through them, otherwise he wants to cuddle, but no more than usual. He does prefer to be under a cover, but that’s not totally out of character for him either.

I saw a tweet from someone whose dog was under their weighted blanket. We’ve tried a Thunder Shirt with ours, though, and she was NOT having it so I don’t know how well she’d do with a blanket. So glad your Yappy has an easier time!

Barkley loves the weighted blanket too.

Such a shame! We had the same with New Years in South Africa when I still had my super sensitive border collie. Eventually I just went to the vet who gave him a mild sedating tablet and he still struggled through it😔

Nothing seems to work, really. Mine already takes Prozac daily for high anxiety. Last night we added some Benadryl and CBD oil — it just barely got her through to the other side. 😒

Aww, poor dogies.

Gracie is decidedly undisturbed. She comes over every once in awhile to reassure Phoebe then goes back to sleep.

At least one of them is relaxed

It’s 11:20 PM here and they still haven’t stopped. Poor Annie is a mess. I’ve tried many things without much success. Its been literally going on for 48 hours nonstop. Mind you fireworks are illegal in my city. Yeah, so much for people following the rules.

UGH. Every year I think oh thank goodness, they’re holding the “official” fireworks thing far enough away that it won’t bother the dog, and every year I guess locals start shooting off their own dang fireworks. It makes me think hateful things like don’t come crying to me when you blow off your pinky finger…

They continued until 3 AM. My poor dog was in a state. then tonight they fired off cherry bombs around in my neighborhood. I won’t say the evil thoughts I have for the people that light them off.

You don’t need to say them, I’m sure I’m thinking them as well. We had more noise last night and Phoebe just looked at me like the world was ending. I need a safe fireworks-free zone before next summer.
