John Holton is our host for Writer’s Workshop. Here are the prompts for 10/30/25:
- Write a post prompted by the word clearance.
- Write a post in exactly 11 sentences.
- Write story starting with the line “They called out her name time and again, but were met with nothing but silence.”
- Tell us about the next big purchase you’re saving for.
- Write about the most selfish thing you do that you’re okay with.
- What, in your opinion, is something you should do more often?
We gotta replace this carpet, man. Alllll of it.
This house has endured two teens moving through middle and high school along with their parties and hangouts in the finished basement, the natural wear and tear of dogs going in and out in the muddiest of conditions, family holiday gatherings, a certain someone coloring her hair, and two elderly dogs who absolutely destroyed the master bedroom once they began having accidents.
The carpet in this house has gone to hell and back. Except “back” is just the return trip grinding even more filth into these fibers. Eventually even our carpet steamer couldn’t save us.
The young adults have moved out(ish, the younger one is still in college) and our sweet Gracie and Phoebe have passed on. Time to see what we can do about the floors…

Our carpets don’t stand a chance with the pets.

Oh for sure. The hair problem is slightly lower now but only because two cats have less hair overall than two dogs…so I guess the math is in our favor?

Now most people advise against carpets because of the dust and allergens trapped in it. Get wooden flooring or tiles.

The allergens part makes sense. Our home is a mix of carpets and hardwoods so I think we find a balance.

We have small rugs but most of the floor is marble. Easy to clean and maintain.
