Nothing made me feel more grown up than when I switched over to chapter books.
I loved reading as a kid, and that’s loved as in “checked twenty books out of the library every week and grinned like a loon while I curled up reading.” We were big fans of the library. Big. HUGE.
My book love started long before chapter books. Nursery rhymes, picture books – all the pretty pages that felt so smooth under my hands while my eyes and ears devoured the stories. It was like a wonderful world that opened up while we were in the pages.
Graduating to chapter books was like joining the best sort of club. It’s nice to look back and remember the simple joy that could be found in a giant stash of library books.
Linda hosts Stream of Consciousness Saturday. This week’s prompt is “chapter.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

I still remember my first chapter book in the 1960s, Beautiful Joe, about an abused dog rescued by a loving family. Books are wonderful. I must visit the library! Thanks for the nudges. 🙂
